I had the sense that A Mischief of Rats featured more ecological content than its series predecessor, and less of the aristocratic hi-jinks which I found quite irritating in the last book. This is proving to be an engrossing series, and I'm looking forward to reading book #4, A Generation of Vipers, scheduled for publication on 15 August 2023. I’ve tried to be patient with this trilogy — which is clearly being teased into a lengthy series, based on the churning out of cliffhanger endings. But for whatever reason, the protagonist and her love triangle/foils/secondary characters feel unfailingly bland and lifeless to me. In her novels, Sarah’s fascinating ecological slant and wonderful plotting have become very popular with readers. The phenomenal success just shows that the author has found the missing piece that cozy mystery readers have been looking for.
