Description

First of all, the best part of IPA is you can use it to clean the containers you stripped your models in so you can keep using them over and over. if you are pouring your Games Workshop paints into dropper bottles, you can clean your funnels.

If it gets in your eyes somehow, rinse out with water. If your eyes are Goblin Green afterwards, go see a Painboy ;) You can reuse the same alcohol indefinitely, just run it through a coffee filter to get the big chunks of paint out. It won't turn completely clear but will still be a pretty high concentration and can be used again. I would keep it in a different bottle to your fresh stuff Once again this is not just useful to Strip Paint off Miniatures, if you have an airbrush you should use something like this in the least. You don't need to fill the whole container, if you fill it to half submerge your mins you can turn them half way through the procedure, saving alcoholIf any paint remains the process can be repeated (this may be necessary for intricate areas or where there are layers of different paint types) The reason I decided to stop after this 6-8 hour period is that whilst stripping, I suddenly vomited into my mouth a small amount. Then like the worrier I am, I even called an emergency medical helpline to ensure I hadn’t poisoned myself. (I hadn’t, and I was advised to stop worrying). The next day my thumb went really tight and stiff where it had been absorbing the alcohol and it took a few days to recover. There isn’t much in the process to Strip Paint off Miniatures but based on my experience using this for a number of years now there are a few things to note. The first of which is that your results (and amount of effort you need to put in) will vary based on how the miniature was initially prepared and what type of paint is on it. Can I paint Biostrip 20 onto larger models rather than dipping them? Yes, Biostrip 20 paint stripper is ideal for painting onto larger objects or models. A plastic bag can help prevent drying out. As I’m not a Chemist or Medical Expert I do need to caveat this post with a warning and story of my own experience so here we go; How to Strip Paint Off Miniatures – WARNING!

If you have an ultrasonic cleaner you can use this (filled with water!) as clean up stage. I wouldn't use alcohol with a cleaner as it might heat the alcohol and will vaporise some of it. It's helpful, but not required. The minis will never look sprue new, but hopefully you can get them to a stage where it's impossible to tell they were stripped when repainted I recommend rubber gloves (normal washing up gloves are probably fine) and a respirator rated for vapours, I.E one you would use for working with spray paints. Not a cheapo dust mask! Also work in a well ventilated area, open a window etc.

IPA does work OK, I mainly use it now to deep clean my airbrush as needed to get small amounts of dried paint out of awkward spots (teflon seals can cope with it, rubber ones, less so) IPA, Isopropyl alcohol, is a fire hazard as stated before, so avoid heat sources and especially open flames. And as all volatile alcohols, you need a well ventilated workspace to avoid dizziness from the vapours - the boiling point may be relatively high but its vapour pressure makes it quite volatile.

When writing this post I took a spare resin part I had, just to test it. As the post was so long I decided not to add this part, but I’ve since realised it needs to be covered. What I do know is that it strips paint off mini’s like nothing else and it’s bloody cheap for an absolute load of it! I can’t really list an Item here, I keep my IPA in a Metal Cabinet in my garage. Know that it is flammable and hazardous to health. keep it away from kids and somewhere fire retardant. As far as I know, it can’t spontaneously combust……….. As far as I know. An Old Towel With isopropyl you're getting 100% good stuff. Now I have heard that isopropyl can soften resin minis, I haven't tried it myself. It probably depends how long you let it soak but I would be cautious before dipping a titan in. If you do want to try it maybe use an unwanted model first. Is Biostrip 20 suitable for removing old paint from Warhammer miniatures? Yes, it is very effective at restoring Warhammer models however we have not tested it on every type of miniature/paint/primer combination! Great results have been reported with Warhammer, Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar and other wargaming models This video and also this one specifically describe the use of Biostrip to remove paint from Warhammer minis.

FAQs

Just wanted to chime in here and say that while I have success in removing the paint using srugical spirit from Boots (UK) and other 99% branded alcohol I then have problems when It comes to repainting the model (especially with the blue easy to build miniatures and less so with the standard grey plastic miniature). I dont soak the miniatures, I will always use a q tip or old toothbrush to gentle scrub/remove the paint. Note – Biostrip Plus is suitable for use on some plastic and rubber, but we would recommend testing a small area first.

So yeah, that’s what it is. I am pretty sure this stuff is in most, if not all of the individual products listed above. Instead of using one of several products where the best in each category have a single brand. There is one product you should be using and it may have several names. Other than that, what Beaky Brigade said! Especially about giving it several rounds of cleaning, IPA will usually require at least 2 rounds of soak then scrub. I have an old electric toothbrush that saves on some manual effort. Never had IPA affect plastic models, but avoid with resin parts, some types of resin can be permanently damaged.

I don’t need to display this one either if you have a home, you have this. it’s the roll of tissue in the kitchen, use it to dry off and wipe off the paint build up you’ll get. How to Strip Paint off Miniatures -The Process
