However, when Buzz asked Lotso to transfer Andy's toys to the Butterfly Room, Lotso only agreed to let Buzz come, which made Buzz question Lotso's kindness. When Buzz ultimately refused to go without his friends, Lotso had him brainwashed, which Buzz didn't like. Later at the junkyard, despite the fact Lotso made Buzz abandon his friends, he and Woody still saved helped from getting shredded. But when Lotso left Buzz and his friends to be killed at the incinerator, Buzz knew his short-lived friendship with Lotso was over. The toys then realize that they are heading toward an incinerator, and try to run for it, but are unable to outrun the speed of the conveyor belt. Lotso notices an emergency stop button on the top of a ladder, and Buzz and Woody rush over to help Lotso climb up the ladder toward the button, but Lotso turns away, leaving the toys to die in the incinerator. After the toys are dropped into a large bowl toward the flames, Jessie frantically asks Buzz what they are going to do next, and Buzz, coming to realize that he and his friends are deprived of any escape chance, takes Jessie's hand with one arm as they finally admit their feeling for each other inside themselves. The other toys do the same as they realize that they are now facing death, and Buzz reaches his other arm out to take Woody's hand. All Piston Cup racers' tires in Cars (including Lightning McQueen's) are branded as "Lightyear," both a reference to Buzz Lightyear and a play on the name Goodyear (an actual tire manufacturer).
