We can see similar results from Fire Emblem: Three Fates. Here Mercedes’s hair looks smoother and as do the lines of her clothing. Before anything else, I noticed how much the MClassic improved the look of text. I was outputting a 1080p laptop signal to a 4K display. And while I was ensuring everything was working, I noticed that the text in Steam looked significantly worse when I turned the processing off.

But when the mClassic works, it really works. It’s just unfortunate that there’s many different caveats that come with this particular device which limit how you can use it. If you have a monitor or TV which supports a 1440p video signal then it’s highly likely that you’ll see an even more dramatic difference in quality than what I’ve been showcasing.I had a look at the raw 720p video coming from the Switch and then swap over to the 720p mClassic upscaled footage. The difference here is night and day which is great because it proves that the mClassic is in fact upgrading the image significantly. Then I got rid of the raw 720p footage and replaced it with the raw 1080p footage, and the 720p mClassic footage was actually better than the raw 1080p footage. This implies that the mClassic definitely prefers a lower resolution signal to clean it up and rescale it to 1080p rather than taking a pure 1080p signal where it can’t do as much with it. Switch between three modes for all preferred methods of play: Scaling Off, Scaling On and Retro Game Mode.

Marseille recruited old-school rapper and NWA founding member OG Arabian Prince, who was a fan of the mCable, to be a designer and consultant. In a surreal conference call with both Arabian Prince and Marseille CEO Amine Chabane, the artist also known as Professor X said that he was interested on getting involved with Marseille because he wanted to find a way to cut costs and get the mCable’s postprocessing effects into more peoples’ hands. Yes, I’ve gotten my “six degrees to Dr. Dre” down to one. Hopefully the clip and image sliders above help better demonstrate what the mClassic can do for lower resolution content. When it comes to actual gaming, I noticed zero lag or latency issues. Metroid Dread, Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate feel as smooth with the mClassic off as it does with it on. mClassic’s patented technology redraws every single pixel on the screen on the fly at 120 FPS with near-zero latency, eliminating jagged edges that are smoothed over by the company’s advanced anti-aliasing algorithm. For instance, one of the games I tested on my Game Cube was Star Fox Adventures. In this closeup of a triceratops there's hardly any difference in pixelation between the three versions. However, the colors did shift a little from one mode to the next. This was even more noticeable while playing my N64 games. Whenever I switched to Processing On or Retro Mode, the darkest colors turned to greys and it appeared that a muted layer had been placed over the original coloring. Otherwise, the pixelation on my N64 games didn't seem to change. It's expensive Costly since it doesn't always do that much Maybe this is just me, if you’re looking at this footage and you can see a difference then definitely let me know. But for me, the difference the mClassic makes to the Xbox 360 is so minimal that it’s just not worth it for this console. So, this game runs at a resolution of 1600 x 900, meaning that the mClassic will take that and upscale it very slightly to1080p. for this test it made sense to leave the Switch itself at a resolution of 1080p seeing as the native resolution of the game sits between 720p and 1080p, and we don’t need the mClassic to be upscaling from a lower resolution than what’s necessary. This leaves a bit of a gap in the market considering that systems like the PS3, Xbox 360 and even the Nintendo Switch are starting to show their age and could benefit from the same type of upscaling we’re seeing with those retro systems. And, simply put, the Marseille mClassic fixed this issue for me, upscaling the images from the Switch, adding various beneficial graphical effects to them, and then pumping them to my 4K TV. games also look far cleaner using the retro mode. I couldn't help but test an old classic like Super Mario 64 (the PAL 50hz version, unfortunately), and as with all of the other games mentioned here, it was considerably smoothed over. On these much older 3D games the point about a softer image doesn't really apply - all of the post-processing provided by the mClassic on N64 games makes the image quality look better, there really isn't an argument to be made to the contrary like with 2D games.

Arabian Prince also provided input for the gaming experience, and how the mClassic could be made more appealing and useful to gamers than the mCable Gaming Edition. In addition to his rap career, Arabian Prince worked in game development at Fox Interactive. He helped develop the SNES The Simpsons games Bart's Nightmare and Virtual Bart (which were terrible) and the GameCube/PS2/Xbox game The Simpsons Hit-and-Run (which was excellent, and needs an HD remaster). The thing that all of these upscalers have in common, however, is that they’re aimed at consoles that don’t already have HDMI video output. It would probably add cost, but I’d like the option to get into the device with an app or by connecting it to a PC and setting up profiles. Maybe that defeats the purpose of a magical little processor, but I would still prefer that. Doesn’t really do anything for classic 2D gamesSo we get to the big question - who is this for? Well, we've already ruled out PC and 4K console players - quite frankly the benefits for them are too small to mention. And unlike what you may have thought from some of the marketing, this isn't a perfect 4K upscaler for your 1080p devices, it's closer to a 1080p upscaler for your other full-HD-and-below devices. If you regularly play on a base modern console, the PS4 or Xbox One, or a Nintendo console, such as the Switch or Wii U, or anything with an HDMI port, then the mClassic is sure to offer a boost to the image quality of 3D games, while the way it smooths over pixel art in 2D games will be down to preference. The effect you get from older systems is going to vary dramatically based on what console you’re using. I tested it with PS1 and PS2 games and there’s literally no difference in the majority of them. September, 2023, Birmingham, United Kingdom / Silicon Valley, USA – The world leader in video processing, Marseille Inc. partners up with Centersoft to officially bring mClassic™ to video game enthusiasts in the UK. The world’s first plug-and-play graphics processor for video game consoles, mClassic™ upscales the graphics of any video game improving the video quality and the overall gaming experience. This must-have video game accessory will take your most loved games to the next level. mClassic™ enhances lower resolution video to Super HD and up to 1440p, providing gamers with a sharper, clearer picture of their favorite video games. With built-in anti-aliasing, enhanced color depth, sharpening and increased depth of field with no lag processing, mClassic™ takes both modern and retro gameplay to the next level. It’s designed to work with all gaming consoles, including Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox 360.

But you could also pair the MClassic with an HDMI switcher to enhance every device that comes out of it. Again, if you have a lot of DVDs sitting around that you don’t want to use with your 4K television, this could fix that. That said, it's easy to spot where the 4K Gamer Pro is making a difference when you compare the upscaled and enhanced image against the pure 1080p one. The image is sharper and, in some cases, the device can make the visuals 'pop' more. While there's not a massive gulf between this and the mClassic, we did feel that the 4K Gamer Pro made more of an impact. As you can see, the three 'enhancement' settings progressively sharpen the image, which can lead to remarkable results – but sometimes the top setting is a little harsh — Image: PhotoFastThe MClassic’s effects don’t do much for games on the 16-bit consoles or earlier. While you will get a big improvement in visuals on an Xbox or GameCube once you add an HDMI adapter, I don’t really see any difference when I run a game like Contra: Hard Corps through the device. The result was that it was suddenly as if I had installed a new, more powerful graphics card in my Nintendo Switch. It was the Switch experience that many gamers have been crying out for for a few years now, a more powerful Switch that could display Nintendo's awesome selection of games in their best possible light. Obviously there is a chance that you’re looking at this and you’re thinking, “sure I can see a slight difference, but it’s so minimal that it doesn’t really matter” and yeah I definitely get where you’re coming from. Let’s face it; the mClassic isn’t a miracle worker. It’s not going to make Switch games look like they’ve been ported to the PS5. For me, the mClassic is a good fit, but it won’t be for everyone. If you aren’t a 4K TV-owning Animal Crossing fanatic, maybe it’s less of a slam dunk, but an mClassic with just a few more features would be an easy buy for any gamer.
