Description

The inhabitants of United Woodlands are being terrorised and all evidence and paws point to the Fiendish Fox Gang (the FFG for short). In a secret hideout deep underground lives the infamous leader of the gang and she plans on ruining the autumn fair and squashing everyone and everything that’s there! Meet Agent Weasel: woodland super-spy. Can he save the Winter Whopper Games from disaster? And will there be enough marshmallows for another hot chocolate? Perfect for reading alone or sharing together, for fans of The Bolds and Toto the Ninja Cat. There are more dramatic missions ahead for Agent Weasel and Doorkins, can you give us a clue about where they’ll take place? I am so happy with Vic and Viv and I hope that they will get a prominent role in the next books because I just love the twins(? I am thinking they are giving their build/looks/names). Which is easier for you – writing or drawing a funny scene? Have you a particular favourite from this book?

In the interim, between the end of the Goodnight series and the start of Toto the Ninja cat – I worked on many picture books with a number of different authors and publishers. It was a steep learning curve for me – as I had no formal training in illustration at all. And I really had to search for that storytelling ability within my artwork. But the real tipping point for Weasel, was 5oo Words on BBC radio. For anyone who doesn’t know – this is a writing competition exclusively for children, between the ages 5-13. Listening to those fantastically creative stories motivated more than anything. This wasn’t because I felt I could do any better. It was more a matter of being totally inspired by these kids. I wrote three little tales and Agent Weasel was one of them. Strangely enough – it was the one I was least confident about. But here we are, book one published and number two on the way. Who’d have thought!

It's the opening night of the Winter Whopper Games, but all is not well in the United Woodlands. Top animal athletes are disappearing, and there are whispers of a silent snow beast on the prowl. It's amazing. A lovely book, very adventurous. I recommend it for everyone. My favourite bit was the punishment of a thousand poops! JP Even though creating your own book can be much harder – illustrating for other writers is a great responsibility. You really want to achieve their vision, which can certainly make for a more drawn out process – if you’ll pardon the pun. But there is nothing more exciting than that first read of a new text. Characters and scenes immediately start popping into in my head. I’ll usually begin sketching away on the A4 printout – before I’ve even read to the end. From the first sketch to final artwork can be an immensely rewarding business. But I did love this weasel. I loved that he was a weasel, because while I can name various foxes, cats, mice, and other animals, I just cannot think of a book with a weasel as the main lead. I loved that he is a superspy and that he gets cases like this. Exciting cases. Oh, and I love that, despite blundering through things, he still does his best and has some brilliant ideas (like when they found out why Von Fluff was so angry he had a magnificent plan to make her happy again, which is wonderful). And come on, his dancing was pretty hypnotising and awesome. And deadly... I guess. :P

It’s time to call Agent Weasel, woodland super-spy. Can he and his trusty dormouse friend Doorkins find out the secrets of Blanche, their mysterious team-mate? Will Weasel be able to compete for a golden fir cone without falling over his own feet? Will there be enough marshmallows and sprinkles for another hot chocolate?
