Description

Studies have shown that NIR wavelengths ranging from 700 to 750 nm have limited biochemical activity and are therefore not often used. More research is needed; but in the meantime, light between 630–660 nm and 810–850 nm appears to have the most profound benefits; that’s the “therapeutic window” mentioned previously. Blue light is much lower on the spectrum of visible light than red light. Its wavelengths are only approximately 380 – 500nm. Any results, however, will be less than those that could be accomplished with red light. Blue light is not capable of accessing your cells at a level deep enough to significantly impact deep tissue healing, pain relief, disease treatment, or anything that isn’t located just a few millimeters beneath your skin’s surface. Red light therapy, on the other hand, reaches deep into your body to jump-start its natural healing capabilities. Together, they stimulate collagen synthesis, which treats acne and acne scarring, while improving skin quality. Red light therapy containing the 630nm wavelength has been proven to be a safe and effective method of stimulating hair growth in both men and women. One study hypothesized that the light stimulated stem cells in the hair follicle, encouraging the hair follicle into an anagen or growth phase. Healing of superficial skin cancers

Red light exists in a spectrum of wavelengths. The best wavelength to use depends upon the condition being treated and your specific objective(s). Certain wavelengths and ranges of wavelengths are known to have specialized healing abilities. Before delving into which wavelengths are most appropriate for various purposes, it is necessary to understand what red light therapy is, how it works, and what it does to your body. nm — color: near infrared, invi s ible to human eye ; Specific applications are less commonly discussed in literature but may have similar uses to other near-infrared wavelengths. Enhanced muscle recovery after a hard workout: A 2016 study co-authored by Hamblin observed the use of 850 nm wavelengths on athletes and found that the use of NIR light increased muscle mass after training and decreased inflammation and oxidative stress in muscle biopsies. Muscle growth is compounded through ATP production and the resulting cellular energy boost. Your body’s new ability to work out more intensely naturally invokes a higher level of muscle development, and your muscle mass increases steadily. A study investigating sciatic nerve pain in rats found that the 660 nm wavelength significantly helped to reduce pain. Accelerated wound healingIncreased cellular energy activates the production of fibroblasts (specific connective tissue cells that create collagen and elastin). Collagen and elastin are the proteins responsible for maintaining your skin’s elasticity and suppleness, and they are also key players in your body’s natural healing process. Enhanced collagen and elastin levels result in your body having a heightened ability to heal itself, triggered at the cellular level. Sunlight appears white to us because it emits almost uniformly over all visible frequencies. However, a laser for example, emits only at a single very specific frequency. Helium-neon lasers emit at 632.8nm, which is a bright red. The lasers in your Blu-ray player emit at 405nm, which as the name suggests, is blue. We can begin to build up a picture of how frequency is related to colour. Hand-Held Devices, Wands, and Pens — Hand-held devices are most appropriate for targeting very specific bodily locations. Red light usually radiates from a circular area around five to 15 centimeters in diameter. Red light therapy is 100 percent natural and FDA-approved. It contains no harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation and is safe for all ages and skin types.

But the wavelengths are only part of the picture. Light Power Output Helps Ensure Optimal Light Photon Absorption Dear Joan, while red light therapy is generally considered safe with pacemakers, you should seek medical advice before using it to ensure there are no risks of interference or other complications. Hand Mitts and Wrist Wraps — Good for hand and wrist pain and soreness due to injury or repetitive motions, mitts and wrist wraps can also relieve conditions like carpal tunnel and tendonitis. Beyond 1,000 nm, the story changes. Infrared saunas often use wavelengths longer than 1,000 nm as part of infrared light therapy — although this is another area where caution is advised due to the possibility of thermal damage. ATP is delivered to all of your bodily tissues and organs, elevating the energy level within your cells. Greater energy in your cells elicits higher oxygen levels, reduces inflammation, boosts your immune system, and improves your circulation.Accelerated wound healing : In 2013, researchers conducting this study found that the red 660 nm wavelength increased the formation of new blood vessels and enhanced collagen deposition to help in the healing of wounds. Although researchers often use lasers in their studies, LED light therapy devices are now being used more frequently. This is thanks to advances in LED technology and the fact that these devices are suitable for consumer use, meaning the results can be replicated at home. Since red light therapy works at the cellular level, it’s important to be patient, be consistent with the treatment, and give your body a chance to heal. Over the course of millions of years, the human eye has evolved to detect light in the range 380—780nm,

Improved bone healing: A 2015 study found that red light at 660 nm was even more effective than the 830 nm wavelength in increasing ATP production in vitro and an initial acceleration of callus formation in the bone fracture healing process. For “skin-deep” conditions, research has shown red light wavelengths to be most useful. For deep tissue applications, opt for near-infrared light, which can pass through all skin layers and even tough connective tissue and bone. Next, we studied the effect of the irradiation dose at 405 nm. Irradiation with 0.02 kW cm −2 was applied at different pulse frequencies (continuous wave (cw), 10, 5 and 1 Hz) and pulse lengths (cw, 500, 100, 50, 20, 10, 2 and 1 ms) resulting in total irradiation times of 2.4–120 s ( Fig. 3b and Supplementary Table 2). For pulsed irradiation the total acquisition time has been kept constant at 240 s. Our data show that pulsed and cw irradiation at 405 nm with 0.02 kW cm −2 corresponding to a total irradiation time of 60 seconds (1.2 kJ cm −2) is sufficient to kill virtually all irradiated U2OS cells ( Fig. 3b). On the other hand, U2OS cells stand a 10 3-times higher irradiation dose (1,410 kJ cm −2) at 640 nm undamaged (cw, 6 kW cm −2 for 240 s, Fig. 3a). Thanks to the extensive research and development efforts by its medical and advisory staff, PlatinumLED has made extensive breakthroughs in red light therapy technology to remain on the cutting edge of this technology as the pioneers and leaders in the space.
