The muted colours with the shimmer make for some attractive effects, but again, it’s not ideal when you consider that most artists would prefer to only have metallic effects in some areas of a painting rather than the whole thing. Easy to control water flow with a non drip valve, these brushes are portable, leak proof and easy to clean. These were the ones I was most excited about as, lightfastness issues aside, I loved playing with my Graphitint pencils. Drawing using Graphitint is lovely, though I find not enough of the 'wet' colour is coming up on the dry version, so you need to be very careful of which pencil is what colour.

With the same properties as a 4B Derwent Water- soluble Sketching Pencil, Graphitint are perfect for people looking to add a subtle hint of colour to a graphite sketch. Finally the end cap is painted with a flash of colour, which corresponds to the pigment in the core. I decided to apply clean water to each colour individually to avoid over blending or bleeding and found the colours dried lighter than the application was applied. Dry applications provide a hint of colour, while adding water transforms pigments into rich shades with an underlying graphite sheen.If used dry they produce grey shadings with subdued hues but just add water and the colours become bolder and richer. I went over the veins of the wings with the Midnight black and applied fine highlights using the white pencil, ensuring I kept the points sharp for finer lines. One thing I have noticed in my time reviewing Derwent products, quality control is most certainly not an issue.
