A. and back to her hometown, Georgie must confront an uncomfortable truth: her own wants and needs have always been a disconcertingly blank page. But for me personally, I’ve never super connected with the sex scenes in the other KC’s books I’ve read.

Safe All Along will help you break the cycle of what-if worries and experience the peace of God in new ways. In 2017 he released his piratical duology, Best Laid Plans, and in 2018 the first book, Where Loyalties Lie won Mark Lawrence's Self Published Fantasy Blog Off. There are a few authors I should know better than to pick up late at night, thinking I'll only read a few chapters before going to bed. The goofy class clown man whore chasing after the serious uptight heroine who hates him is my least favorite equation. And what I find it particularly fascinating the way she tends to use typical hero “tropes” (the hero of Luck of the Draw is a taciturn alpha, Reid in Love Lettering is Mr Buttoned Up, and Levi is, of course, Grumpy) to gently interrogate the way socially constructed gender codes shape and affect her heroes.

All of these books are about conflict and resolution, but the characters fall out for different reasons – Rainbow Fish thinks too much of himself, George won’t share, Hummingbird doesn’t respect boundaries and Something Else wants a Friend who is just like himself. And I think part of what is so magical about these characters who come to us with so many different dimensions, is that almost every reader will find something about them to connect to.

But underneath she suffers from insecurity and confusion about what her next step should be and is more than a tad hard on herself. The last thing Levi wants, while he’s waiting for the renovations on his own house to be complete, is to be in Georgie’s way, especially when she’s a ball of talkative sunshine while he has trouble conversing with a stranger at the best of times. Lastly, the Know-it-All may have a harder time “reading the room” in the hybrid workplace; without the visual or body cues of co-workers, it’s easy for this type to continue unimpeded on a Zoom monologue. Georgie’s best friend from school Bel also just moved back with her husband and is expecting her first child. As in they say the words weak and strong about six times between them in a single page of text which … err … is a lot. That said, I've read this ages before y'all can, I'm so sorry, but this is going to be my favorite romance of 2023. Like the book tried to really dissect some topics that were pretty heavy for the characters, and just didn’t do it all that well.

so i just finished this book and i'm a bit shell shocked at how good it was so this review is not gonna be coherent at all, more like an unhinged list of all the things that made me fall so hard for this book. It’s no different from what millions of people do, good people who are in pain or unsure of where to turn; good people who need a break from everything in this world that’s hard and sad and unforgiving. The politics of feminism etc that reaches these pages seems to stop at the comment about men getting on in life due to not having to worry about shaving their legs, and that Cossi fan Tutte is sexist. She’s feeling listless and unsure of her next steps, having fallen into the PA thing by accident and not really having a professional dream to pursue in the aftermath. watch the author do the whole cliche of; he lied about sleeping with the whole continent of north america because he was SO in love with her, that this was his way of 'trying to move on'. Georgie, used to putting others' needs first after working as a demanding assistant, now feels a sense of emptiness. And so Georgie - who is lacking direction in her life after losing her job - decides that maybe going back and living out her high school dreams, one by one, might give her a better idea of who she is and what she wants. The ‘friend-fic,’ a term I rolled my eyes at from the get-go, felt a little odd/weak/silly as a plot device, and Georgie’s epiphany at the end of the novel about her life and the direction it should take also rubbed me the wrong way.
