This oven is made from smooth corrosion-resistant aluminised steel which is easy to clean and resists scuffs and corrosion. i always thought they were a fun item never ment for real cooking but now i see you can cook things like a pork roast so i may try that this summer.

Since we don't have any trips planned for August, I thought now would be a good time to post about one of my new favorite pieces of camping gear - our Coleman Camp Oven. I especially appreciate your tips for adjusting the baking temperature when using this propane-fueled camp stove and oven combo. I then can use the Dutch oven for many other cooking chores including over coals outside, or frying meats and eggs on inside of it’s non stick lid on stove or over fire.

I scrambled up some eggs and threw in some pre-cooked bacon, shredded potatoes, shredded cheese, onion and salt and pepper. The Stove Top Camp Oven hasn't been designed for use over coals, but we can't think of a reason why you wouldn't be able to use it.

Camping in high altitudes and little wood around for us makes the choice for a pressure cooker more obvious. Christa pointed out while you can’t find whole-wheat flour, salvado de trigo is a common product, which is the husk of the wheat. My experience is that the Aluminum dutch oven works much better for baking then the cast iron, seems to distribute the heat around better without burning bread bottoms. Christa had been a chef at her own restaurant in Switzerland for years and has always baked her bread, including while on the road. It is also important to remove the oven from on top of the burner before extinguishing the flame when using on a gasoline or kero stove, or the residual unburnt vapors are liable to taint the baked goods. Most folks put some sort of heat diffusing material in the bottom such as a piece of plate steel, a cast iron griddle or even a pizza stone. Baking brownies, biscuits, potatoes, and warming up rolls for your burgers brings a different dimension to outdoors cooking. com, the Sell on Etsy app, and the Etsy app, as well as the electricity that powers Etsy’s global offices and employees working remotely from home in the US. We used this oven on a windy and relatively cold Easter weekend, and the wind proved to be problematic in terms of keeping the heat at high enough level to cook quickly.

Without these technologies, things like personalized recommendations, your account preferences, or localisation may not work correctly. I moved the shelf to the very top and put foil then baking paper down and let the temperature climb slowly to the required 200°C, judged by thermometer not indicator. There are some potential issues with the oven - for instance, on a particularly cold or windy day, it can be difficult to maintain the temperature. So, our conclusion: we don’t use it as much as we did but because it does take little space, it’s worth carrying for the occasional need or want.Mix flour with water until you get the right substance, make thin patties of them and bake them on the griddle. We used to go camping a lot as a family when I was a child and this Coleman camping oven would have been amazing to have!

Personally I think there is room in any backpacker or outdoors person to have one of these in their collection. This will obviously depend on the output of your stove, but the temperature gauge on the front goes up to approx 300'C so it should be fine to reach 180'C. With the limited space available in our FJ Cruiser, any additional gear needs to be worth the space and weight it occupies. Adding a small baking stone to the bottom of the inside helps it to heat evenly and retain heat longer. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. I've had several and sold them on, they just don't do it for me as getting a constant temp is nigh on impossible. I use them at home, outdoors in hot weather, to avoid heating up the house, as well as while out camping. I’ve got one, only used a couple of times (garlic bread and pizza) it heated up quickly, the food cooked but didn’t go particularly brown (a bit like cooking something in a microwave). I do use the steel diffuser, and folding legs with the smaller 10″ GSI aluminum dutch oven for pies, flat breads, biscuits and scones, or Irish soda breads that don’t rise much, because of it’s reduced height, and it does not have the “legs”, making it double as regular pot for pasta etc.
