The story is loosely based on the plot of the movie but with more supporting characters and villains thrown in, offering a robust and satisfying Spidey experience from top to bottom. We’ve gathered 15 brain-teasers for you to test your knowledge with, from his toughest enemies to his special talents.

Another side quest in the game winds up leading Spider-Man to the penthouse apartment of Dmitri Smerdyakov, better known as the shape-shifting villain Chameleon. The fanboy blogosphere ( including myself) – and even the great Stan Lee – might need to ready ourselves for a giant egg-on-face moment. I do remember that one Spiderman game that actually let you play as Green Goblin with the hoverboard and everything, thought that was a cool bonus for beating the game. Spidey may have starred in video games dating all the way back to the Atari era, but precious few of those are actually any good.

What sets Marvel's Spider-Man apart is its emotionally rich story, which stands shoulder to shoulder with just about anything we’ve seen in movies. But with Spider-Man 2 changing a great deal about Venom’s back story, it makes sense to rework Carnage, too. Petey’s grungey new spandex translates into some impressively hefty additional combat abilities, with Venom’s tar-like tendrils letting you slap around street thugs like a spiteful gothic octopus. Another one developed by Vicarious Visions and tying in with the final Sami Raimi movie, on GBA this was a 2D sidescrolling beat 'em up with a decent amount of web grappling and wall climbing. The old foes meet again and have an airborne punch-up, with Peter finding out that the Goblin knows (and plans to spread) his secret identity. This was supposed to draw inspiration from the mid '90s animated series, and there would have been high hopes with it utilising the SNES. Marisa Lascala of Good Housekeeping included Spidey and His Amazing Friends in their "60 Best Kids' TV Shows and Family Series of All Time" list.

It's a MetroidVania style game with an amazingly fluid combat system that for my money is the best Spidey-combat to date. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has lost its verve, the storytelling in Spider-Man 2 still delivers. Licensed stuff is especially bad for it, but you put up with the faults because you have a fondness for the license. It was poorly handled and did away with some interesting character growth from both Peter and Mary Jane.Marvel’s ability to show Iron Man’s gradual transition from arrogant overreacher to chastened stick-in-the-mud over the course of a half dozen movies may just be one of the most impressive aspects of its pioneering cinematic universe. With that caveat covered, let's dive off the building and swing our way through a whopping 38 Spider-Man games that have appeared on Nintendo consoles over the years. Over the course of several games, Insomniac has established a universe wherein Peter Parker and Miles Morales share the mantle of Spider-Man.

Death and subsequent resurrection is one of the most common, but being stripped down to the level of a mere mortal is another.

With disappointing presentation and a focus on rather dull 2D action platforming (aside from some scruffy web swinging segments), this 3DS port is not fondly remembered by many Spidey fans. Octavius is led away in cuffs and Peter scores a date with a grateful Betty Brant in a rare, but welcome happy ending. The motley crew is made up of Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy), Spider-Man India, Spider UK, Spider-Girl and Spider-Ham – the talking pig Spidey from the Marvel "Zooniverse".
