Description

On one hand, it is beautifully illustrated, with helpful step-by-step photos for some of the recipes. The recipes are all very easy to recreate and each dish comes with a personal narrative describing the importance of the dish to the Tuccis. Copiii noștri - Isabel, Nicolo și Camilla - și cu mine am făcut tot ce ne stă în putință pentru a recrea multe dintre felurile sale de mâncare pentru că, din păcate, cu excepția câtorva, nu au fost niciodată notate.

This is a solid book for beginners and more experienced home cooks alike who are looking for new meals to share with their families. He also tells some funny stories, like the time he asked Felicity what she wanted to cook for a dinner party the following weekend. On the other hand, most of the recipes include ingredients that I never have on hand, would probably never purchase and have no way to obtain, including some specific Italian ingredients such as trofiette – I had to look this one up to find out it’s an Italian pasta. The series concludes in Sicily, where he finds Michelin-starred chef Tony Lo Coco, winemaker Ariana Occhipinti, and Princess Stefania di Raffadali in Palermo. Italian and British food at their finest, complete with easy-to-follow recipes and suggested ingredient brands + alternatives for those of us who don’t live near a true gourmet market who don’t want to invest in an expensive seasoning for just 1 recipe. Tucci is a foodie who loves a culinary get-together, and offers up warmly annotated, user-friendly recipes that reflect his Italian-American background and that of his (British) second wife Felicity Blunt. Featuring family-friendly “simple to make and magnificently delicious” (Mario Batali) recipes and stunning photography, a practical cookbook from New York Times bestselling author, beloved actor, and respected foodie Stanley Tucci.

This is a collection of recipes not only from his parents but his wife Felicity Blunt and her sister, Emily, as well as many friends and colleagues. Many of the recipes here were out of the ordinary, and you could probably find much of this in another cookbook. From that, you’d bring your flask of wine, your fiasco, and that’s what my father would have with dinner,” he says. Throughout his childhood, family and food were inseparable and cooking was always a familial venture evoking a wealth of memories and traditions. I was a little skeptical about this book given the track record of celebrity cookbooks, but Tucci managed to put together a collection of classic Italian family recipes. The experience was incredible, even though the demanding schedule sometimes curbed Tucci’s appetite. In six episodes, shot before and during the pandemic, he travels to Tuscany, Lombardy, Sicily, Rome, Bologna, and Naples and the Amalfi Coast.

When asked if the new series might give Italian restaurants their own “big night” after the challenges of lockdown, he chuckles. There's nothing in there you can't find online, except the allure of eating the family recipes of A-list and B-list stars. He is also a Sunday Times bestselling author with his memoir, TASTE: MY LIFE THROUGH FOOD, published in October 2021 by Fig Tree. Dropping in on chefs in Italy, like Tony Lo Coco (I Pupi, Sicily), Sarah Cicolini (Santo Palato, Rome), and Fabio Picchi (Cibrèo, Florence), was one of the joys of making the series.
