Groupe Saint Aubin is also the pioneer of fresh sugar cane juice rum in Mauritius with its famous Saint Aubin 1819 Rum. years later, New Grove rum still conveys this strong heritage and retains these delicate flavours from the past.

Native only to Mauritius, the pink pigeon is now one of the rarest birds in the world and used to be widely distributed throughout the island. Made as a single estate rum from a molasses base from sugar cane grown in volcanic soil by the Medine Distillery (founded 1926 and oldest operating distillery in the country) and spiced with Madagascar and Reunion Islands BourbonVanilla (which grows as orchids on both islands – and in the case of Reunion grows in heavily volcanic soil), orange zest from Reunion Island, orchid petals (giving it a gentian and white flowers taste) each ingredient is individually macerated in their rum then blended giving them a much more finer grained control over flavor than throwing them all together and hoping. Final Thoughts: Decently made with a distinctive but not overdone spicing which we appreciate given the preponderance of overspiced bitched up rum that is trying to compensate for or hide a poor quality rum. Situated one thousand miles off the southeastern coast of Africa, the remote island of Mauritius was settled by the Dutch in 1507.In 1926, the Medine Estate, which is nestled on a bed of volcanic soil between the Mauritius mountains and the Indian Ocean, was founded.

Made from some of the finest sugar cane in the world, Pink Pigeon undergoes quadruple distillation with each time a new botanical being added to the mix. Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Pink Pigeon is a Single Estate Rum made in the oldest distillery still in operation today in Mauritius from some of the world's finest sugar cane grown on the Medine Estate. As part of the conservation effort, Pink Pigeon Rum is a contributor to the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation.Mauritius was home to the Dodo bird and is still home to a number of endangered species such as the Pink Pigeon after which this rum is named. Pink Pigeon Rum is from Mauritius a small country/island near Reunion Island, 50040 mile east of Madagascar, and not to be confused with Mauritania. Pink Pigeon is a Single Estate Rum made in the oldest distillery still in operation today in Mauritius. One of the oldest sugar plantations on the island, the estate began distilling cane sugar into rum decades ago and is the oldest Mauritian distillery still in operation.

Smooth, elegant with a lively edge, Pink Pigeon gets its tantalising flavour from 3 botanicals, Bourbon Vanilla, Orange Citrus and Vanilla Orchid petals. And in a nice gesture the Pink Pigeon people are also donating to the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation to help safeguard their Mauritian muse. The Pink Pigeon is one of the rarest birds in the world and flies free in the skies of Mauritius, the tropical paradise of the Indian Ocean. First Impression: Delicate, not overdone spicing ( by most spiced rum standards), decent grade of rum used blends nicely with the vanilla, orange and orchid petals give it a nice spice bouquet.

The quality of the underlying rum gives structure and texture allowing the vanilla layers to fuse and play on the palate. They can also be found on Ile aux Aigrettes and there are plans to introduce them to La Vallée de Ferney and Bras d’Eau National Park. Distilled at Medine Distillery, the oldest working distillery in Mauritius, the molasses based rum is infused with natural Bourbon Vanilla handpicked from Reunion and Madagascar, lively and invigorating hints of spicy orange peel, and floral orchid petals. All I could see was a large pink birdcage with something in it- I wasn’t sure what was actually in the cage, what it was or really what it was about at all.
