Here on Glass Onion, John is claiming that he’s “throwing Paul a crumb of niceness – cos I have Yoko and I am leaving him! As 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' The Beatles also drew on Edwardian and military ideals through their costumes.

The decision led to resentment from Lennon, who complained after the group’s split that “I got sick and tired of being Paul’s backup band”. We're not sure which item we're loving most here: those likely flared trousers, the long tuxedo coat, the slim fringed scarf or the black beret. This cover is widely unknown, and this print is one of only 100 given to senior EMI executives in 1987 to mark the record’s 20th anniversary. Actually, in an interview (in Playboy Magazine I believe) John Lennon reveals the lyric is ‘Everybody’s got one. I believe it’s covered in the Hunter Davies “authorized bio” which came about before the White Album. However, Lennon may have liked the use of the word ‘joint’, presumably expecting many to see it as a reference to a cannabis reefer. At the same time, John also mentioned that after saying “I am the Walrus” he later realized that in actual story, the Walrus was the big capitalist who took all the oysters for himself.

That´s typical Lennon: At the same time he is singing a straight melody on the same notes, the accompaniment is descending! It sounds simple and childlike, but it’s a wonderfully creative album/story, if you’re not familiar with it. I believe Lennon realized his mistake about the Walrus being the bad guy pretty soon after the song came out.

In 1877 he received the Empress of India Medal, an award marking Queen Victoria's assumption of the title ‘Empress of India’. That song, in turn, featured the line “See how they fly like Lucy in the sky”, a clear reference to Sgt Pepper’s psychedelic masterpiece.
