Then suddenly in 2003, Sobraj, who was probably bored and sick of his growing anonymity, travelled to Nepal and was arrested there for the murders of two tourists he had killed years before. From pond dipping or mini beast hunting to ice creams and pedalos, the whole of Hyde Park is a playground for adventurous minds. After the gallows were closed, the tradition for public speaking remained and the part of Hyde Park known as Speaker’s Corner became a popular place for Londoners to have their say.

But Hyde Park remained a private park until James I came to the throne in 1603 – he opened the gates to a well-heeled group of courtiers and socialites, making the park a rather exclusive club. Charles Sobhraj is a character that exists outside of the nuclear family sphere, and the author nicely links his early obsession with the tragic (his mother as a virgin/whore and his father as a respectable business/monster without a heart figure) as the means in which Charles hardens. He did a week's engagement on the bandstand during World War II in 1944 with the Fodens Motor Works Band. Feel free to bring your own food and drink to enjoy in the park but barbecues and any sort of fire lighting is absolutely forbidden.

At iconic Speaker’s Corner, you’ll see where radicals and revolutionaries from Karl Marx to George Orwell have come to have their say.

Serpentine : A True Odyssey of Love and Murderous Evil

Richie: The Ultimate Tragedy Between One Decent Man and the Son He Loved (1973) was the story of a Long Island man who killed his drug-addicted son. He would skip school, steal, run away from home, wanting to go back to his father, who by now, had become quite rich living in Saigon. The memorial was unveiled by the Princess Royal in November 2004, on the 90th anniversary of the start of World War 1. Dance with us as we celebrate some of the best music out of Africa in the last 50 years with No Signal. This man was, juxtaposed with actual trial transcript that reveals him to be pathetic and self-aggrandizing in a way that's frankly embarrassing to most people.Over the following years I read several news articles of Charles Sobhraj amazing escapes from prison. The payoff of the upstairs neighbour and the civil servant, who through pure efficiency final nail a truly desperate (and by then fairly stupid) Sobhraj to the post is great reading. In a time of isolation, these initiatives have deepened the Pavilion’s intents toward sustained collaboration, and I am excited to continue this engagement with the Serpentine’s civic and education teams and our partners over the summer and beyond. Every year, we welcome hundreds of small and medium events to the Royal Parks, including walks and runs, large picnics, concerts and community sports. Serpentine Artistic Director Hans Ulrich Obrist and CEO Bettina Korek selected this year’s architect with advisors Sir David Adjaye OBE, Professor Lesley Lokko and David Glover alongside the Serpentine team – Julie Burnell, Head of Construction and Buildings, and the project’s curator Natalia Grabowska.
