Overall, the SPH-10BT does offer a safer driving experience when using your smartphone. Just make sure you install it correctly and it doesn't interfere with any other controls on your car's dashboard.

One aspect of the SPH-10BT I was concerned about was how seamlessly it would move between different sources. When I was connected to the radio via Bluetooth, there was only a slight lag when moving between streaming music apps, stored music files, and the FM tuner. With the SPH-10BT we were able to enjoy all the amenities you normally get from newer cars with built-in touchscreen entertainment or infotainment systems, but at the faction of the cost. The Pioneer smart sync app is easy to use and we were able to customize it to fit our driving needs. Introducing a dynamic evolution in smartphone connectivity and in-car entertainment. Pioneer's SPH-10BT offers state of the art smartphone connectivity, enhanced accessibility, playability and sound quality. A perfect match for todays active lifestyles. Thanks to Direct Access Keys on the front-panel, you can use your favorite apps without once touching your phone, helping to ensure driver safety. There are 5 Direct Access Keys on the front panel - "Voice Recognition", "Navigation", "Message", "Phone", and "Application Launch".Making A Call: There are a number of ways to make a call using the Pioner Smart Sync app on your connected Apple iPhone or Android smartphone. You can also use voice recognition and the receiver's included external microphone. song/album/artist information. The front-panel LCD of the receiver will display limited text information. compatible Apple iOS or Android device helps ensure your safety by making operation more intuitive through the use of a user-friendly We also liked the added voice control the device brought, and it was easy to set up voice commands thanks to the Smart Sync app. We were able to easily use verbal commands to find our favorite song or station.

Pioneer has done a nice job of bringing a connected car experience to older vehicles with the SPH-10BT. The receiver has innovative smartphone connectivity features, which we found easy to use once installed. The one-touch access was also very responsive. However, you have to remember that even with SPH-10BT, the in-car user experience is still going to be different from today's infotainment systems. If you have an older car, and use your smartphone often, then definitely consider SPH-10BT to inject a new connected driving experience to your vehicle. But do note that if your smartphone runs out of power while using the receiver, you'll also lose access to the app. You can still listen to music, but you won't be able to pull up all of the other features. Besides bring up smart applications, Pioneer also has a way to add sensors to your old car, which typically don't have it installed. With the Pioneer SPH-10BT you can get a ND-PST Rear Parking Sensor kit (which will need to be professionally installed), to help prevent fender benders and other minor bumps to your car.

sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position through the Pioneer Smart Sync app on your connected mobile device. You can choose Finally, we like how you can disconnect the SPH-10BT from the car and store it away when not in use. The last thing you want is someone to break in and steal this new connected car device. Without the smartphone in the cradle, the receiver offers fairly limited utility. It's fair to assume that most folks will be using the stereo in conjunction with their phone, and that the phone will be mounted in the receiver's cradle. If youalready have another spot onyour dash where you prefer to mount your phone, that's fine. Mounting your phone The SPH-10BT is designed to be used only with the Pioneer Smart Sync app on a smartphone mounted securely, safely, and legally within your vehicle. Any other use of the smartphone while driving may be dangerous and violate the law.

Compatible Smartphone Sizes: Your Apple iPhone or Android smartphone must be 2.28"-3.42" (w) x 2.28"-6.69" (h) x 0.15"-0.39" (d) with a maximum weight of 0.55 lbs. The Smart Sync app offers users four different choices for how they want their display to look as they drive: Music mode, Dash mode, Driver Pilot mode, and Personal photo mode. They're easy to find without even looking down while driving. There's also aUSB port (with a somewhat annoying port cover) above the left-hand buttons, and a small display screen in the middle of the stereo's face. You can see a little bit of text on the display, but most of the action will be on the phone's screen. Setting up the stereo and your phone Simulated Sound Fields" add the ambience of different types of listening rooms to my tunes, like concert hall and stadium. And there's "Easy Sound Fit" for making no-hassle time correction tweaks depending on what kind of car I'm in. More advanced settings include manual adjustments to time correction and fader/balance controls. Integrate Your Smartphone with Your Receiver. Pioneer Smart Sync is a highly evolved app available for both iOS and Android OS that utilizes the power of a connected smartphone to expand the features and user interface of compatible Pioneer in-dash receivers. Product highlights:

Color Customization: Color Customization lets you match the receiver's illumination to your vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 12 preset colors, customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red/Blue/Green brightness levels), or scan through a variety of colors. On the first few passes with the iPhone SE 3rd generation, the Smart Sync app and receiver performed admirably together. However, the stereo/app combo is asking a lot of the Bluetooth connection, which is not always as robust as I'd like it to be. As Bluetooth chips for both the stereo and phones improve, perhaps Smart Sync will prove to be a reliable alternative for those who love their phones but can't invest in a touchscreen receiver. A 31-band EQ could easily provide hours of fun tweaks if I was using it in a car with a decent stereo system. It even includes several presets and a pair of customizable options that I can save. I don't really know much about "Super Todoroki Sound" but there are three settings for it, or I can just turn it off.

Pioneer includes an AM/FM tuner as well as making it easy to access stored music from a smartphone or USB thumb drive. And enjoy your MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, and FLAC files with Pioneer's integrated MIXTRAX virtual DJ technology, which converts your music collection into a non-stop playlist, with enhanced transitions and lighting. It took me roughly 15 minutes each time just to get Smart Sync on my phone to pair with the stereo after the first couple of times doing the test under similar conditions. For round five I tried connecting with an iPhone XS Max and had no issues, but I didn't do much testing beyond the connection because I really wanted to see how the cradle would work with a larger phone.
