Description

With the HD580x, you get a sense of height that is noticeably more prominent than the width factor, which hurts separation of instruments and makes it more of a vocalist’s ideal headphone and not one suited for wide sounding recordings.

Otherwise, this headphone doesn’t have good extra features that can help you to use it everywhere or take calls or other stuff as it is completely performance-centric. It doesn’t provide much convenience, only audio quality. For the most part, it was still very rare. More ppl would say that all headphones were for gaming or that they preferred something else. There would be a short few tho. Like this post talking about Hd600 series' 3-blob soundstage. Even in that, there were very few ppl who had agreed (one talked about the Elex). Many disregarded it. I bought these used. Then washed the pads. I did listen to them a but before washing the pads, and after drying the pads it sounded the same to me. Used pads may mean that I had much less treble than new pads would. There are more examples, of course, but at the end of the day there is very little to argue in favour of the HD8XX’s tonal balance. It has the Hifiman centre-mid dip taken to an almost caricatural level that I’ve never heard in another headphone before, so while meaner fellows like I would brand the HD8XX as a terrible, no-good, very-bad headphone, the nicer amongst you may perhaps call it “unique-sounding”.

Reviews

With a very decent depth, the stereo imaging is very amazing too. So, in conclusion, audio-wise, the HD650 is a particularly attractive headphone that can provide any audiophile with a great audio experience. The Music style I usually listen are classical music, Japanese Pop and female singers, such as Beyonce and Celine Dion. In the high frequencies the HD6XX is a bit more reserved than it should be. It sounds absolutely realistic and provides a lot of information, but in the top end it might be a few dB more without making the sound too bright or artificial in my opinion. This could also give the HD6XX more transparency. Here I would like a more direct response, but as in the bass and mids this is criticism on a high level, because basically the HD6XX does everything right when it comes to natural sound reproduction. Only a little bit the effervescence is missing, but life is not a rainbow-colored unicorn and therefore you can't really blame the HD6XX when it tries to stay authentic. Sibilants or peaks I can't make out, which makes for an absolutely safe and fatigue-free sound experience. Tonal correctness is clearly more important for the HD6XX than the big show.

These headphones are all mids. I feel like the entire section is highlighted. It's present from the very first use. Something about this sounds speaker-like too, like it's similar to speakers, not a "headphone sound". This is a pro and a con IMO. It's good because it's more familiar and what I am used to in my mind, but also bad because it feels a bit off from other headphones I have experience with. Compared to my previous headphone though, DT880 250ohms, it sounds a mix of way more lively, aggressive, and “correct”. However, it might not be a good idea to use it with mobile phones as they need too much power to run smoothly and produce the perfect sound. For which you might also need to use an amp and a DAC, and also for the reason that the HD6XX has a sensitivity of 103 dB / 1 Vrms and a resistance rate of 300 ohms. Comparisons. I’ve compared the HD6XX to headphones I think are fit for a comparison based on style of tuning and price segment competition, regardless of driver type or style of headphone. On the headband there is a foam padding, which prevents pressure pain as far as possible and allows wearing the headphones for a long time. A vintage Marshall amplifier head can help create the perfect sound in the bass and midrange levels. If you are an audiophile, you might long for good detail and presence which will include all the instrumental textures and timbres, which are provided by this headphone.

What should you buy instead of the Drop x Sennheiser HD 6XX?

The separation on mids and bass is average. I found it not enough, and it contributes to a poor sense of detail. I could hear all parts of my music though; think of it like a fuzzy picture. Sound bleeds together even though its all there. The treble escapes this poor separation however. We don't get much, but we get the most necessary, which is quite sufficient in terms of price. Here, the headphones themselves are clearly in the foreground, and even without accessories, the price would justify itself for me. And there is another problem. As discussed earlier, it isn’t good enough for mobile phones. But for also portability reasons you might want to use it with computers only. So if you only want to use a headphone in your room to enjoy music with great sound quality, then this is for you.

Extremely small sound stage . All sounds are coming into your head in one narrow spot . Not saying sounds are unclear , but they all sound from same place same direction. This makes classical music , live performance extremely biased and unenjoyable. But, there was always one little… thing that seems to be overlooked in the conversation of evergreen headphones, more likely than not due to its extremely low price point. The venerable KSC75, its predecessor being the far less popular KSC35 which was introduced by Koss in 1995. The KSC75 debuted in 2005 as the KSC35’s cheaper alternative and has since remained as a cornerstone of every audiophile’s “newbie recommendation list”.The treble feels identical when using my Shanling M5s DAP by itself and then using the same DAP as a source through my Heron 5. The same test with the HD6xx yields a superior sound quality everywhere when paired with a great amplifier. So if you don’t have a great amp, the HD58x is probably the better choice for you. Fidelity In these formative days of headphone audiophilea I recall being at a meet in College Park, MD where there were a number of HD600s and HD650s. We were auditioning cables by Cardas, Stefan AudioArt and other DIY concoctions including pure silver cables. It was amazing what a difference the cable could make to the signature. I had owned the Clear MG's for a few weeks before I actually went and played Apex with my friends. That's when I noticed it. On the map Olympus, I got on top of the roof of one building and heard enemies. I followed the sound of their footsteps and eventually they stopped. I told my friend who was playing Bloodhound to use his scan to show the enemy locations through the walls, and even though the enemy was in a tunnel connecting to the basement of the building I was standing on (AKA 2 levels down), I had managed to pinpoint their exact location around 50ft away. This was practically an impossible task for me before, and I was surprised. It was just too good. Even to this day, I sometimes find myself getting annoyed at my friends because they seem to not notice enemies coming from obvious directions. It's somehow become effortlessly easy now. I describe the sound of their footsteps as simply sliding across the soundstage. There isn't really a point where it becomes blurry or vague. I still manage to lose enemies here and there, but it happens way less and it probably really is because of the volume this time. The HD 6XX are a welcome and brilliantly executed second generation for one of Sennheiser’s best values, and a chance to nab easily accessible audiophile sound for a serious bargain. Is there a better alternative? Some headphones in the price range produce better bass, such as Meze 99 Noir's. But, the HD6XX are in general much more revealing and accurate across the rest of the frequency range than other headphones in this price range.

So, if you are okay with these facts, then you should go for this headphone as the sound quality itself is a lot for the headphone. Final Words

Headphone Cables / Recables

More than a decade after debuting, the HD 650 have gotten a refresh (sort of), and you might even say they’re better than ever. This second coming of the HD 650 was actualized in the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX, the result of a collaboration between the storied audio brand and the “audiophile” subset of Massdrop’s commerce community that have proven extremely popular — so popular, in fact, that the company is still selling them years later.
