Goodnight Punpun (Japanese: おやすみプンプン, Hepburn: Oyasumi Punpun) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Inio Asano. Kraj uopšte i nije ništa drugo do nagoveštaj sledećeg dela i mislim da ćemo tek na kraju dobiti celokupnu sliku onoga što Inio želi da poruči svetu svojom pričom.

se Punpuna tiče, prvo me je obuzeo čudan i neprijatan osećaj. Uglavnom mi dolaze kad se prvi put sretnem sa nečim. Trebalo mi je vremena da se priviknem. Ali ne puno zapravo jer ni samo čitanje nije dugo trajalo. Odmah potom usledilo je prepoznavanje i osećaj već viđenog. To su oni sićušni delovi svog odrastanja koje sam prepoznala u ovoj priči. Ali svako odrastanje je različito i priča za sebe. Punpun je dečak iz disfunkcionalne porodice koji kod kuće posmatra oca alkoholičara i nasilnika kako nasmrt prebija svoju ženu, Punpunovu majku. Za domaći dobija da napiše šta bi voleo da bude. Ali Punpun to još uvek ne zna, plaši se da prizna sebi ili nije otkrio. Voleo bi da se dopadne simpatiji, ali i drugarima. A te dve stvari u ovom slučaju ne idu zajedno. Tek treba da odluči kome treba da se dopadne i šta želi od života. Zato Punpun sebe vidi kao pticu, isto kao i svoje roditelje i srodnike. Retrieved July 25, 2015. this the perfect example of adults not thinking about how their actions will affect their kids. i hated punpun's mom. such a selfish human being. things certainly aren't always at it seems with the characters too. Punpun cleans up his bed and asks Yuuichi for a medical compendium to make sure he is not melting and dying. Yuuichi tells Punpun he will be fine but gives him the books to look through. Punpun browses through the strange pictures of strange body parts, then decides to play with his telescope. He sees a star move and rushes to show his uncle, daydreaming about winning the Nobel Prize for his discovery and colonizing this new star, Punpunia, with Aiko. He wants to tell Aiko about his brilliant plan but is too flustered to speak to her the next day. During gym, Komatsu rushes to find the boys to witness Harumi receive a love confession.

the thing that i could actually relate to while reading this was how punpun felt lonely and alone as he was going through all the things happening to his life. that hit home for me. we may not share the same age but i do feel the same most of the time. i thought it wae great the author was able to capture that emotion. One day when Punpun skips practice, Yaguchi befriends him. In badminton, Punpun's friend Komatsu starts to dominate Yaguichi, who is also suffering from achilles tendinitis. When Punpun confides his feelings for Aiko to Yaguichi, who is torn between his sports career and her, Yaguichi wagers his relationship with Aiko over the result of the upcoming tournament. Yuichi meets Midori, a worker at a coffee shop, who asks him out. Although they get along, Yuichi holds guilt from a past relationship and tries to drive Midori away, but she demands to learn about his past. Yuichi recounts how five years ago he was teaching at a pottery workshop and went on a date with the high school age daughter of one of his students. She revealed to Yuichi that after having had an abortion, she was being kept under house arrest by her mother and requested Yuichi's help.

He feels, thinks, lives on a different plane of existence and perception. His interactions are apparently normal: he has schoolmates, a family, a sweetheart, his own unlikely image of God appearing time and again in moments of distress. Except that the reader never sees him talking to anybody, except through indirect speech. There's a distance between Punpun and the others that words cannot seem to cross without losing the property of sound that makes them real. He does communicate, but it's a kind of communication whose form is as incongruous as his physical presence.

Punpun and Aiko's relationship and injuries worsen more and more as they both display suicidal behavior. After Punpun comes close to killing a stranger for no real reason, the duo arrives in Kagoshima and decide to go to the nearby island Tanegashima. Once there, after an innocent evening spent having fun, Punpun decides to strangle Aiko to death with a rope before killing himself, but she talks him out of it, while also confessing that she is in fact the one who killed her mother, having stabbed her to death after noticing that she was still alive after her fight with Punpun. Meanwhile, Sachi keeps on searching Punpun by meeting with his friends and family. So Punpun is this ghost looking creature. His whole family actually looks like these things. However, everyone in the world is normal looking humans. It's not said if everyone else sees Punpun and his family different but I doubt it since they all act normal around them. So this is mostly in Punpun's head, and let me tell you...This is not a kids story despite 90% of it being about kids. Kids go through some crazy shit. After the first chapter ends with someone ending up in the hospital we get to see Punpun's life change by meeting a girl, exploring sex stuff with his buddies, and learning about life problems getting older. The publisher is unconvinced by Sachi and Punpun's manga, disliking the main character's "needless" depression. While Shishido gets badly injured after being mistaken for a shoplifter, and ends up paralyzed for life, Punpun's childhood friends Seki and Shimizu, who stayed very close, drift apart as Shimizu joins a cult led by the mysterious and exuberant Pegasus. Punpun, having distanced himself from Sachi who is now continuing the manga on her own, starts using a fake name and acting like a completely different person to shield himself from his depression, but ends up running into Aiko by chance.

Asano described the young Punpun as a fundamentalist, which leads to his regrets and dislike of gray areas later. Asano also ascribed these characteristics to the other characters: "The main characters in Punpun always remain children in the way their purity leads them to fail and become social misfits." At end of the manga, Asano was originally going to make Punpun die while saving a child of a friend, but he felt that it was too "clean" of an ending. He continued the theme of nothing going right for Punpun by making him live and by denying Punpun solitude after Aiko's death by pairing him up with Sachi. In the final chapter, Punpun's experiences are contrasted with those of his childhood friend Harumi to show Punpun from the perspective of a normal person. Harumi sees Punpun surrounded by friends, but in reality nothing went right for him, further emphasizing the theme of failure. [4]
