The fact that you don’t have to manually brush with an electric model means that all a manufacturer has to do is make the brush feel comfortable and well balanced, while the brush head goes to work. Another factor is how frequently you travel. Most of the electric toothbrushes we've tested come with a travel case, but the higher-end brushes have cases with rechargeable batteries, so your brush doesn't run flat during long trips away. A typical electric toothbrush won't need charging more than once a week, so if you're rarely away from home longer than that, you could save money by skipping the fancy case. Aside from the colour of the brush the physical size and shape are identical and you would not be able to tell the two apart unless you noticed the additional cleaning mode icon found on the 9000. The cases supplied with the iO Series 7 and 8 don’t offer in the case charging, but they do hold 2 brush heads. The new magnetic driven motor is quieter and the way it works produces a cleaning sensation that is similar, but different.

A smaller, but relevant difference relating to the cleaning modes is that the motor in the Pro 2 2000 is a bit more powerful and actually offers more movements than the Pro 600. I touched briefly on the pressure sensor that the Genius X has. This is another really useful element to this electric toothbrush in my mind, particularly for first-time electric toothbrush users. Wondering how this works and what adapter you would need? I have written a separate article that explains 2 pin plug adapter in more detail, if you are interested. There is a great deal to like about the iO and this is without a doubt a step up for Oral-B. But, the downside is the price. It costs quite a bit more than the Genius X and does not deliver significant benefits that would be justifiable to most for the price. ConclusionA bigger difference and potentially useful feature for first time electric toothbrush users is the inclusion of a pressure sensor on the 2000. For anyone who has spent years brushing their teeth not considering where their smartphone is, then adding this to your twice daily routine will take some practice, but it is not impossible. Despite having personally used the Genius 9000 daily for the last 3 years, I rarely refer to the app. In part, because I know I am brushing right, and in part, because I find it a little cumbersome. iO Series:>Oral-B’s flagship range, using a new magnetic motor and redesigned heads for a gentle yet effective clean. Smart features come as standard, while the higher-end models come with magnetic chargers and other premium accessories.

If you opt for the luxe variant of this brush you will get 4 brush heads included in the box. That is a years supply for one user. The Genius X has a battery charging icon/LED on the front of the brush handle. This information is displayed on the OLED display of the iO in more detail. However, I am aware that there are many different variants of the Genius range. You have the 8000, 8900, 9900 and the 10,000. The Pro 3 3000 has a slightly revised design. It looks a little cleaner. Unlike the 2000, it does not have a rubber grip that runs the length of the brush handle. Instead, the only grip on the front is the panel that contains the power button. If you stop your brushing session and not all the teeth are white, parts of the teeth remain blue. The parts that remain blue are the parts that you have not cleaned correctly.

Unlike other toothbrushes, the Oral B Genius X doesn’t power off automatically after two minutes of brushing. For younger, more easily distracted brushers, this could mean that they end up brushing for longer periods, which can damage tooth enamel.

The Genius X offers the latest in toothbrush technology, but there’s a hefty premium to pay to be an early adopter

Battery life isn’t up there with some Sonicare models – you’re looking at a recharge roughly every three weeks – but if you want the latest and greatest toothbrush tech for less, there’s no better buy. Both models offer most of the benefits of an electric toothbrush without having to pay ‘too’ much for them. The Genius X has technology inside which automatically stops the brush charging once it is fully charged. However, performance did improve over time, like the AI was learning how we brush our teeth and adapting how it presented that on the coverage, which is the whole point of AI, surely? Within a week of use, the Genius X began to morph into a truly spatially aware toothbrush and was updating the in-app, on-screen graphic in real time, flashing white where the brush was at work and then turning solid white when it deemed that we had brushed enough.
