The Night Stalker: The Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez

I think I was more surprised that he was STILL alive after being sentenced to death, than the letters actually. Because he was so famous, and most famous serial killers were already dead by the time I found out about them. So it was like a weird timeline crossover experience, if that makes sense. In 1989, Ramirez was convicted of thirteen counts of murder, five attempted murders, eleven sexual assaults, and fourteen burglaries. The judge who upheld Ramirez's nineteen death sentences remarked that his deeds exhibited "cruelty, callousness, and viciousness beyond any human understanding". [3] Ramirez never expressed any remorse for his crimes. He died on June 7, 2013, of complications from B-cell lymphoma while awaiting execution on California's death row. Yet another delay occurred when one juror was found murdered on August 14, 1989, but rumors that Ramirez had orchestrated her death proved unfounded. On September 20, 1989, the jury finally returned a unanimous guilty verdict on 43 charges, including 13 counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder, 11 sexual assault charges, and 14 burglary charges. A comic book based on the property was published in 2003 by Moonstone Books, with some commercial success. Moonstone continues to publish both a bimonthly serial magazine and a series of prose novels and graphic novels featuring the characters. Moonstone also adapted Rice's original The Night Stalker script as well as two unfilmed scripts for the TV series: "The Get of Belial" and "Eve of Terror". [ citation needed] This is the best book on true crime I've read so far! I couldn't put the book down! I was always into true crime stories and criminal profiling and this book made me love criminology even more! The story of Richard Munoz Ramirez aka The Night Stalker is captivating yet frightening! The story begins with childhood happenings. Richard witnessed gruesome pictures of rapings and killings that his cousin showed to him (his cousin Mike was in Vietnam raping and killing women during wars) and also killed his wife Jessie in front of him (he was 10 years old) and his two kids 5 and 7 years old. Richie as a kid had sustained two head traumas that caused him frontal lobe epilepsy which grew out of it when he was a teenager, witnessed domestic violence and abuse (his dad although a great man, was a hot tempered mexican who beated his kids as punishment and also traumatised his own self in front of them by beating his head with a hammer until blood was covering his face), his teacher was a pedophile, he was taught by his cousin how to kill - how to remain unseen in darkness - how to break into houses etc, he was exposed to drugs (cokaine, heroine, pot, angel dust, lsd - halluciogens) and he became a satanist. He was condemned to death row as he killed 13 women and men and raped some women. The killings were gruesome and horrific and the rapings were brutal and vicious. Is he really born to kill or are all these happenings really triggered this kind of behavior??

Theft turned to violence with Ramirez’s first discovered murder on June 28, 1984; the victim was 79-year-old Jennie Vincow, who was sexually assaulted, stabbed, and killed during a burglary in her home. As a 12-year-old, Richard, or "Richie" as he was known to his family, was strongly influenced by his older cousin, Miguel "Mike" Ramirez, [12] a decorated Green Beret combat veteran who himself had already become a serial killer and a rapist during his time in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. Mike often boasted of his brutal war crimes, and shared Polaroid photos with Richard showing Vietnamese women whom he had raped, murdered, and dismembered or decapitated. [13] [14] Richard would later state while incarcerated that he was fascinated, rather than repulsed, by the images and stories Mike shared with him. Mike taught his young cousin some of his military skills, such as killing with stealth and effectively staying hidden in the dark, especially at night. [15] Around this time, Richard began to seek escape from his father's violent temper by sleeping in a local cemetery. [15]
