Potential questions to ask students when playing together include: Learning to extend, “read”, and create patterns is an important early math skill. We do a TON of patterning activities in my pre-k class. Teddy Tables is a fun learning game where students practise addition and sharing using teddy bear counters. The Teddy Bear Counters Picture Graph Worksheet would make a great station on a day where you do centers. Prepare small bags of teddy bear counters, placing fifteen to twenty of varying colors in each bag. Have students sort the teddy bears by color and use the four-color or six-color teddy bear counter worksheet to record the results. How to Use Teddy Bear Counters in the Elementary - Sadlier

Compare which group of teddy bear counters has fewer or more and identify how many are in each group and which group has the fewest or most

How to Play– Begin by choosing a number card. Next read the number and then count out that amount of bears. Finally, try counting the bears in different formations such as a scattered pattern or circle. Kids often think the number has changed if you change the position of the counters, when in fact it has remained the same. So it’s great to teach them that even if the bears are in a circle instead of a line, the amount counted remains the same. Once all seats at a table are full, collect a point token and remove all teddy counters from that table. I made five strips for each pattern. This way my Four would gain comfort and confidence with each pattern. I started with the simplest: ABAB. You may also love these counting bear activities which focus on numbers up to 30.
