Well, this was different. It's the sort of book that would probably be appreciated most by little boys... but the fun illustrations and jaunty meter would make it fun for most kids (and for the parents who might be reading it aloud). I found it rather difficult not to guffaw when reading lines such as: With its irreverent sense of humour and recurrent references to underpants, this story of a brave young knight taking on a bully is sure to entertain. Its rhyming text and playful vocabulary definitely add to its accessibility and appeal. Users who reposted Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants - KS1 BrightSparks Concert - February 2022

My boys and I are big Winnie the Witch fans, and this is a similar style so we loved this book. The books is aimed at boys I'd say from 3-6, however I am sure girls would love it to. It is perfect for my two who are 3 and 5. They laughed at the name and we all giggled away at this great story. Performed by the wonderfully dynamic and hugely engaging Ensemble 360 and Polly Ives, this concert is a great introduction to live music for children. It's full of wit, invention, songs and actions, and plenty of opportunities to join in. Cats’ favourite thing in the world is fish. So when Alfonso the cat overhears a two old men discussing the imminent arrival of a boat, carrying its largest ever catch, he hatches a plan. This book is very funny – fishtastic in fact! Based on the best-selling children’s book by award-winning children’s author Giles Andreae, this is a tale of courage and friendship, as Sir Scallywag encounters both challenges and delights along the way: a mischievous dragon, a witty talking horse, and a fearless princess. Ensemble 360 has gained an enviable reputation across the UK for the quality and integrity of their performances. Formed in 2005, eleven musicians of international standing came together to take up residency in South Yorkshire with Music in the Round, establishing a versatile group comprising five string players, five wind players and a pianist. This is a beautifully illustrated book that follows the story of a young Sir Scallywag on his mission to recover the golden underpants. With rhyming verses, it has an enchanting ability to amuse and entertain its audience, especially when read aloud. This story is funny, light hearted, some great rhyming and some funny words used along the way. Not only that, but it teaches a great lesson in bullying, that they can be overcome by even the smallest of boys. An excellent lesson for young children. Original music by our children’s Composer-in-Residence, Paul Rissmann, features instruments including strings, woodwind, and horn, presented together with story-telling and projected illustrations from the best-selling children’s book by Giles Andreae and Korky Paul.
