A policeman stands guard in the rear garden of 10 Rillington Place, Notting Hill, Home to John Reginald Halliday Christie, the bodies of 4 women were found in the ground floor flat, Christie later went on trial for the murder of several women (Picture: Popperfoto/Getty Images) Evans did confess to both murders. Over the course of time, he made five varying statements to the police which contained numerous fabrications and contradictions. But the truth was there. Only the killer himself could know the details about the murders; he shared this knowledge with the police. Christie's murders were dramatised in the film 10 Rillington Place (1971), starring Richard Attenborough as Christie, Attenborough spoke of his ambivalence concerning the role: "I do not like playing the part, but I accepted it at once without seeing the script. I have never felt so totally involved in any part as this. It is a most devastating statement on capital punishment." The film also starred Judy Geeson as Beryl Evans, John Hurt as Timothy Evans and Pat Heywood as Ethel Christie. [138] Peter: I remember every detail about the house, 10 Rillington Place. It is firmly ingrained in my memory. After Christie’s crimes came to light, I knew exactly where each body had been placed. Those memories will never go away. Richard Attenborough, who played Christie in the film, spoke of his reluctance to accept the role: "I do not like playing the part, but I accepted it at once without seeing the script. I have never felt so totally involved in any part as this. It is a most devastating statement on capital punishment." [9] The film was produced by Leslie Linder and Martin Ransohoff. [10] Hangman Albert Pierrepoint, who had hanged both Evans and Christie, served as an uncredited technical advisor on the film to ensure the authenticity of the hanging scene. [11]

A year later Rillington Place had its name changed to Ruston Close but number ten continued to be rented out to tenants. I want her here, next to me when I go,” he explains. “But this book is the final chapter. This is it now. This is what I know happened.” In October 1944, Christie found his second victim, a work colleague named Muriel Eady. According the the Plymouth Herald, Eady had been suffering from bronchitis, and Christie lured her to 10 Rillington Place with the promise of a special cure.

Where was Rillington Place filmed?

Adapted by Clive Exton from Ludovic Kennedy’s crusading non-fiction book of the same name, 10 Rillington Placeexpertly tells the bleak story of English serial killer John Reginald Christie (Richard Attenborough), and the terrible miscarriage of justice created by his crimes. Please note that, as Christie remains infamous, this piece will include spoilers (as I’m assuming many readers will at least be aware of the basic historical facts). I am also going to confine my analysis solely to the version of events portrayed onscreen, rather than discussing discrepancies or omissions compared to the real case. Three years later, John Christie was still living in the same apartment complex when the landlord let another tenant use Christie’s kitchen. There, a grisly discovery was made: three bodies hidden in the pantry.

I am positive and satisfied that the right person, Tim Evans, was executed for the murder of baby Geraldine. Although he was charged with the murders of both Beryl and Geraldine, at that time cases were dealt with one at a time. Evans was pardoned, but his actual murder conviction was never lifted, and the charge relating to Beryl was allowed to stay on file. Peter Thorley has written a fascinating book about one of the most notorious murder cases of the 1950s. Warm congratulates to Peter Thorley for revealing the truth about Tim Evans who was a coward and was rightly executed. His sister was savagely beaten before she was killed and there was no sign of sexual intercourse. Christie’s modus operandi was quite different so yes there were 2 killers and no miscarriage of justice. Reply The bodies of Beryl and Geraldine were discovered on December 2. That night Evans again confessed to killing his wife but also this time murdering his daughter.

He says that because prostitutes offered a service, they were undemanding and did not become emotionally involved with their clients, which could appease sexually dysfunctional people such as Christie. August 2020 brought with it the publication of a new book entitled Inside 10 Rillington Place. Far from being ‘just another’ book to add to the many already written upon the whole subject, this constituted a historical watershed in that the writer was none other than Beryl Evans’s youngest brother Peter Thorley.
