Description

The IK Multimedia iLoud MTM monitor has a port at the rear, which disperses soundwaves from behind the woofer into the listening environment. This helps to boost the lower frequencies when using such a small bass driver. Working with a system similar to ARC3, a room correction software from IK Multimedia, iLoud MTM has its own fast correction system. The monitor calibration process, which consists of 7x3 stages with ARC3, takes only 10 seconds in MTM's own system. Personally, I found the option named FLAT (without adjustment) more suited to my own way of working than iLoud's own calibration. You can buy the iLoud MTM monitors as a pair or as single units. Buying them singly means you get an extra sparemeasurement microphone for the same price!

I K Multimedia took the budget monitor market by storm with the ‘physics defying’ iLoud Micro and MTM monitors. I reviewed the iLoud MTM monitors in our September 2019 issue, and they haven’t left the meter bridge in the A Room at Coupe Studios (Boulder, CO) ever since! It’s no surprise that IK Multimedia has decided to expand the lineup, taking everything that made the Micro and MTM so popular and amping (pun intended) them up to the next level. Precision Overview First impressions were of a capable and serious monitor. It had an understated sound, but there was clearly depth and detail. I left the Eq extension at the default 50Hz.These are nearfield monitors in a truer sense than any other speaker I've ever heard. If you want to put some speakers on stands 8' in front of you, then these are not what you're looking for. If you want to listen with friends, then these are not what you are looking for. These monitors are only really going to do the things that make them special if you are sitting about an arm's-ish length away from them. My head and the speakers form a 40" equilateral triangle, and I think they would probably be a bit better if I could reduce that by a half a foot or so.

Process and analyze the NFS data yourself, including the Preference Score, Correct Spinorama, Directivity 2D and 3D live etc. : Your studio monitors – while not as exciting as your plugin synths, keyboards and even the computer you use – are the most important item in your production armoury. Being able to hear mistakes in your mixing – which good monitors will reveal – means you can sort them out.

If you want the best sound from your MTM monitors, you’ll need to move them away from reflective surfaces like the desk, computer monitor and studio walls. Every reflection adds extra colours to the mix, and distorts the clarity of the sound image. Maximum SPL @ 1 m, playing one speaker on axis: 103 dB from 200 Hz sine wave, 95 dB at 100 Hz sine wave, 93 dB pink noise A stylish, compact monitor that delivers decent sonics, flexible connectivity and solid build all at a very attractive price. All three models essentially yield the same frequency response, which boasts +/-1dB across 45 Hz–30 kHz, with its complete response reaching down to 36 Hz at -4dB. IK claims to achieve a true linear phase response above 150 Hz,

Great choice if you have limited space and don't need high SPL, perhaps the best price/performance on the market for that use case at the point of writing this review. It can be used vertically and horizontally. Although IK Multimedia was designed to (primarily) stand upright, they said using it vertically would enlarge the sweet spot area. The dispersion narrows in horizontal use. Looks are subjective, but I think they look pretty great in person. Subdued, with relatively benign branding (I wish there wasn't any, but at least the iLoud logo is pretty low-key and located on the side of the cabinet instead of the face). They don't call attention to themselves in the way that many nearfields/mini-monitors do, but the vibe is more professional or computer accessory than it is traditional hi-fi.The Cal LED will start to blink blue and the front LED will start to blink white. You’ll have 5 seconds to move out of the way The DSP also optimises the phase response, making it a great feature to compliment the midwoofer-tweeter-midwoofer format that it derives the MTM name from. This is a speaker design perfected by Joseph D’Appolito in the 1980s, where the tweeter is placed between two mid-range drivers.
