In just over five seasons at Easter Road, Falconer would make 63 appearances in all games for the first team including friendlies and tour fixtures, three of them in Europe, scoring the winner in the 1-0 away Fairs Cup victory against Utrecht in November 1962. He would also make 109 appearances for the second team, scoring 10 goals. Forget Beau Geste . . . Let’s Find Susan Instead I was living in Malibu at the time. The message was clear, but the Israeli soldier standing over him spelt it out: “If we see you one more time, we will kill you.” At the age of 18, Falconer found another family. He joined the British Royal Marines. At age 19 he went to the SBS (special boat services) selection in Poole Dorset and was only one of nine Marines (out of a class of 147 other men) to successfully complete the challenging SBS course. His mastery of the course and military knowledge impressed his superiors. Even though the military required most candidates are rto serve time as a Commando before applying to the Special Boat Services, Falconer was chosen as an exception to this requirement. To broaden his career, his superiors posted him as the 42 Commando at a later date.

Although he had accompanied the side on the close-season tour of Germany and Yugoslavia in 1960, Falconer would have great difficulty in securing a regular place in the first team and it would not be until the 1961-62 campaign that he would make a real impact, ending the season as the Easter Road side’s top scorer with 12 goals from just 18 appearances, two more than the recently signed Gerry Baker. Hydes is an award-winning independent family brewer and Pub Company. Founded in 1863, it has remained an independent brewery in the North West of England and North Wales ever since. Four beers are available on a permanent basis plus an extensive range of constantly changing seasonal and occasional cask ales. Hydes beers are distributed throughout its estate of 60 managed and tenanted houses, free trade customers, wholesalers and pub groups.
