Description

After they have had a moment to discuss the new evidence the investigators will once again present their thoughts on the evidence and what it could mean for the means of murder and clues on the table. In fact, my wife had the same reaction when I asked if she wanted to play. “Murder in Hong Kong” didn’t sound at all appealing. During the Allies Phase, the Forensic Scientist will once again guide the players through a round where they close their eyes and some take secret actions.

DECEPTION: Murder In Hong Kong - Game Rules

They have no way of knowing which is the Murderer and which is the Accomplice and they do not know how the crime was committed. At any point during the game, an Investigator can shout “Let me solve the crime!” and have a go at winning the game. Once they have declared an attempt, they then choose one Clue card and one Means card in front of a player. In the game, players take on the roles of investigators attempting to solve a murder case – but there’s a twist. The killer is one of the investigators! Each player’s role and team are randomly assigned at the start of play and include the unique roles of Forensic Scientist, Witness, Investigator, Murderer, and Accomplice. While the Investigators attempt to deduce the truth, the murderer’s team must deceive and mislead. This is a battle of wits!Bang! The Dice Game Shoot first and ask questions later in this rapid-fire duelling dice game The dice bring a fantastic random element to this social deduction game. If you ever played Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, the boardgame by Grey FoxGames, you should be ready to play Krimi: It’s my take on a web version for this awesome game, with some slightly different rules (the ones we played as house rules). The player receiving the Forensic Scientist card reveals; their identity and acts as the game master. They discard their Clue and Means cards and will play using the Scene tiles instead. All the other players keep their roles secret.

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong - The Mind Cafe Deception: Murder in Hong Kong - The Mind Cafe

A Fake Artist Goes to New York takes the imposter-hunting formula and spices things up with a splash of Pictionary, resulting in an easy-to-learn game of deception that’s more family-friendly than most. And today we’re excited to share another deduction game we absolutely love playing – Deception: Murder in Hong Kong by Grey Fox Games.

Game Play

If the Murderer is arrested but can identify the Witness, the Witness is considered to be killed, allowing the Murderer and the Accomplice to get away with murder and win the game. In our family we’ve found everyone loves being the Forensic Scientist. In many games of this nature, our kids tend to want to be the culprit trying to escape. But with Deception, the Forensic Scientist is the coveted role. Since everyone wants to be the Forensic Scientist, from now on we’ll assign the role and rotate. While Avalon is superior to the original Resistance, the latter’s Hidden Agenda expansion makes the two games functionally identical by adding the Commander, a re-skinned Merlin. So it’s really down to what floats your boat: spies and bow ties or grails and women in ponds? to 12-player game: 1 Murderer, 1 Forensic Scientist, 1 Accomplice (optional), 1 Witness (optional), all remaining: Investigators The Murderer tries to hide their role and look for a scapegoat. Even if they are identified, the Murderer still wins the game if no one correctly identifies both the “Key Evidence” and the “Means of Murder”.

Deception: Undercover Allies | Board Game | BoardGameGeek Deception: Undercover Allies | Board Game | BoardGameGeek

Players are brave knights loyal to King Arthur and his cool table. Each turn, a group is sent out on a quest, but some of them are secretly traitors with the power to sabotage the mission. If three missions fail, the day is lost. New to Avalon is the powerful wizard Merlin, who can gaze into his crystal ball and learn the wrongdoers’ identities, but loses the game if they correctly name him at the end. Before playing your first game using this expansion, simply shuffle the Clue and Means cards in with their counterparts in the base game. The Forensic Scientist should then say, "Lab Technician, close your eyes", and verify that they have done so. The group discussion and theorizing that underpins it can be extremely engaging, and especially rewarding for those that like to use their imagination.

Setup

This bite-sized variant features less bloodthirsty lycanthropes than the original, as the werewolves’ aim is simply to win by lying low. During the night phase, players take it in turns to perform actions, depending on their roles. A seer has the power to look at someone’s role card, but other characters like the robber and troublemaker can switch these around during the night. The Forensic Scientist then draws one new scene tile and replaces one already in the center of the table with the new tile. Many times he will remove a scene tile that is causing the Investigators problems or is directing them toward the wrong player. Also, considering how easy it can be for these games to go wrong thanks to someone accidentally giving something away, it adds an extra layer of risk. TL;DR
