Description

The book is set in Dublin to being with then moves to Doha, Liverpool and finally London. Alice, at the age of eight, is given a gift that makes her unique, special but also controls her life in so many ways. She sees colours around people. Through there is only three chapters of book, it makes sense why its just three with just chapter titles not chapters. Trust me keep going its so worth it, we see Alice as she's rejected by her mum and younger brother. Her older brother and saviour, Hugh, is always there for her protecting her every step of the way. You can't help but hope she flourishes and succeeds in everything she does. In someway she does but through a wonderful journey of discovery, finding yourself and maybe find true love along the way. It must be so lonely and frustrating and scary to try to live your life just like everyone else but to have no one to turn to for an advice or just to talk about your feelings and emotions. This was most interesting, following Alice throughout her life, her struggles with her difficult mum and younger brother, but loved and understood by her older brother. Her best friend in high school becomes a major sports star in the Premier League, she helps him get there. She discovers her husband on the tube, he has no colours, which she has never experienced. Alice sees things differently and it affects how she lives. This book follows her story as she adjusts and comes to know herself.

An interesting fictional recount of how someone with synesthesia may see life and the world around them. This story is pretty fast pace and I think and I think the writing is just absolutely wonderful clearly wonderful Celia never disappoints me. It's definitely one of those stories which is unforgettable and I don't really want to give too much away so that people actually get to read it and enjoy it like I did Forgotten the title or the author of a book? Our BookSleuth is specially designed for you. Visit BookSleuth Synaesthesia is an interesting condition and it has worked well as a plot device in a few books that I’ve read in recent years, but hanging the entire story on synaesthesia is not really a runner. It becomes very repetitive - there are only so many ways of describing how colours appear - the red mists, the murky browns, the swirling purples. Less “a thousand different ways” and more a case of, well, just a few really.

In a Thousand Different Ways by Cecelia Ahern | Waterstones

Trust me when I say this is a book that is an absolute must read of 2023! Thank you so much for the publisher and NetGalley for giving me advance access to one of the most beautiful, moving books I've ever read. I hope this one wins some awards that's for sure.

Sniffy. My 40-year-old pillow case that is now a rag and still comes everywhere with me. What is the most beautiful book that you own? Did being the daughter of a former taoiseach help prepare you for being a public figure or encourage you to keep a low profile? I adore Cecelia Ahern's book so I was stoked to be given the opportunity to read her new novel. Imagine if you could see people's auras in the shape of colours. This is Alice's world. Until one day, she meets someone who has no colours at all associated with him. I loved Alice's journey throughout this book although there were times where I did get confused as multiple timeframes were discussed. Overall though, this was a beautiful story that I really enjoyed.
