Description

He observes, “This universality of physical laws tells us that if we land on another planet with a thriving alien civilization, they will be running on the same laws that we have discovered and tested here on Earth---even if the aliens harbor different social and political beliefs.” (Pg. 38) Later, he adds, “All measurements suggest that the known fundamental constants, and the physical laws that reference them, are neither time-dependent nor location-dependent. They’re truly constant and universal.” (Pg. 44) What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? There’s no better guide through these mind-expanding questions than acclaimed astrophysicist and best-selling author Neil deGrasse Tyson. But today, few of us have time to contemplate the cosmos. So Tyson brings the universe down to Earth succinctly and clearly, with sparkling wit, in tasty chapters consumable anytime and anywhere in your busy day. Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson – eBook Details

A century later, people developed technology powerful enough to see these waves, and humanity “would finally catch up with the prediction, just days before that gravity wave, which had been traveling for 1.3 billion years, washed over Earth and was detected.” If he would have just given more details about everything, I would have enjoyed it more. He glosses over important theories I had never known. Long before anyone knew that the universe had a beginning, before we knew that the nearest large galaxy lies two million light-years from Earth, before we knew how stars work or whether atoms exist, James Ferguson’s enthusiastic introduction to his favorite science rang true. Yet his words, apart from their eighteenth-century flourish, could have been written yesterday. What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? There’s no better guide through these mindexpanding questions than acclaimed astrophysicist and best-selling author Neil deGrasse Tyson. he [deGrasse Tyson] somehow reveals a path through complex thought and theory in astrophysics for the reader, depositing enough detail to ponder upon, imploring us to consider possible answers to these confounding questions for ourselves." — The 12 Books of Christmas 2017, Sky at Night

What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? There’s no better guide through these mind-expanding questions than acclaimed astrophysicist and best-selling author Neil deGrasse Tyson. Cosmos, by Carl Sagan. The audiobook is excellently narrated by LeVar Burton, and I find it to be just as "down to earth" as this one is. Little to no math, but explaining detailed concepts in a way we, those bad at math, can understand. The cosmic perspective not only embraces our genetic kinship with all life on Earth but also values our chemical kinship with any yet-to-be discovered life in the universe, as well as our atomic kinship with the universe itself.” You need to really get these things better if you are going to be a true Star Trek Fan. So I am thankful for that. Sentence-Summary: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry talks about the laws of nature, physics, astronomy, and the mysterious inception of our cosmos, the universe, stars, and implicitly our beautiful planet where life thrives and perpetuates.

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry is a fascinating piece of writing about the most captivating facts of science, life, the beginning of the universe, and many other laws of science. By combining physics, chemistry, mathematics, and astronomy, the book manages to shed some light on the most wonderful facts about life and the universe. Reading this book will help you wrap your head around some of the universal truths about life and science in general. Who would I recommend the Astrophysics for People in a Hurry summary to?

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry is not at all about physics rather it consists of interesting chapters on astrochemistry too, on the creation of elements and the reason behind their existence in the solar system. Earth’s Moon is about 1/ 400th the diameter of the Sun, but it is also 1/ 400th as far from us, making the Sun and the Moon the same size on the sky—a coincidence not shared by any other planet–moon combination in the solar system, allowing for uniquely photogenic total solar eclipses.” Since the first movie I saw in the theater was a rerelease of Star Wars sometime in the early 80s, space has always given me a sense of wonder. Astrophysics for People in a Hurry is an easily digestible summation of the universe, from the big bang to the present.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, is the Director of the Hayden Planetarium, and the host of 'Star Talk' and 'Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.' Tyson is also a very funny guy, and his sense of No, I had to take it in bits and pieces, and feel that I enjoyed it more that way. Some of the things said challenged my world/universe view a bit, and I found it helpful to just have time to ponder and be wowed by the universe. As he explains in the preface, that’s Tyson’s very goal: to make you “ culturally conversant in [his] field of expertise.”I recommend this book, but read it slowly and in small sittings. As a person in a hurry, I tried to plow through it all at once and became lost. Neil deGrasse Tyson breaks down the universe into manageable chunks, from leptons to galaxies. He does a good job with theoretical concepts like dark matter and dark energy, pulsars, quasars, and other flashing bits. Since I've watched many of his appearances, it was easy to hear his voice in my head. There's a fair amount of humor but not enough to distract from all the sciencing going on. I used to think a lot about Dr. Tyson... but after the last chapter this book got old. He basically called anyone who hasn't dedicated their life to science "inconsiderate". That's my take. Tomēr dizaina ziņā 4,5 zvaigznes, jo bildes bija ļoti kvalitatīvas un skaistas, bet to izvietojumi dažviet bija neērti un ievietotas teikumu vidū.
