A uniquely charming mixture of whimsy and the macabre that completely won me over ' Helen Hoang, author of The Kiss Quotient

Set in a world equally full of magic and demigods as it is donuts and small-town drama, this utterly unique fantasy is sure to sweep you off your feet. The Best Sitcoms on Netflix Right Now (October 2023) By Garrett Martin and Paste Staff October 20, 2023 | 12:00pm There is a side story on why there are so many Drudges coming out of the woodworks and why Mercy's undertaking business is so attractive to the competition that they want to buy it out. I liked how all of those items played out on the side of the romance to keep the story going. Hart's eventual meeting with his dad was really well done and made perfect sense to who he was and the gifts he had. Hart and Mercy can’t stand each other. They seem to bring out the worst in the other (do we see sparks flying?). However, they have more in common than they like to think. Both are lonely and pretty much have no life beyond their jobs. The writing was right up my alley, except for some parts here and there that I skimmed - don't ask me why, I couldn't even explain why my attention floundered at times. He pressed his forehead to hers, and because it would be absurd to tell her that he loved her, he poured everything he felt into one word: “Mercy.”

A uniquely charming mixture of whimsy and the macabre that completely won me over ‘ Helen Hoang, author of The Kiss Quotient

The Princess Bridemeets You've Got Mailin this enchantingly quirky, completely refreshing fantasy with a rom-com-worthy premise, perfect for readers of T he House in the Cerulean Seaand The Invisible Library. I fell hard and fast for Hart, I loved Mercy’s commitment with her family and her passion for work. I admit I was mainly on Hart’s side, and I think he deserved more most of the time, but I still loved their romance and was on the edge of my seat for their happy ending. The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy tries to do a lot of things--to be romantic, to be poignant, to be funny--and it's not that it fails at those things, exactly, but that it doesn't quite succeed at them, either.

I wanted to love this book sooo much, there were some really great things about it but overall, it was kind of disappointing for me. CWs: There is extensive talk about a dog who passed away in the past, death of loved ones, forensic type corpse descriptionsIf Lewis Carroll and Nora Ephron teamed up to write a magical Western, this would be the result. An unabashedly offbeat adventurefull of dead gods and mostly-dead zombies, family drama, swoon-worthy love letters, and a Very Good Dog,The Undertaking of Hart & Mercyoozes romantic fun like a corpse oozes dubious fluids.” Freya Marske, author of A Marvelous Light Ever since first finishing The House In The Cerulean Seaby TJ Klune, I’ve searched for a love story that made me feel both hopeful and cozy with characters so well-established that they felt like old friends. In 2022, the book closest to that was The Undertaking of Hart and Mercyby Megan Bannen" THE UNDERTAKING OF HART AND MERCY is warm, compassionate, and compelling... It's a deeply charming, intelligent exploration of the macabre that brings with it solid worldbuilding and characters you want to cheer for.” Vivian Shaw, author of Strange Practice
