This book also uses the same plot devices of the first book, almost exactly the same. I’m sorry but that’s lazy writing. He needs to do all of us a favor and set himself on fire. Honestly. He is giving toxic boy vibes who keeps saying “No no no, you don’t get it! I’m actually a decent person!” Raihn- One fit to be called king. He has two different roles- to be a leader to his subjects which requires him to make tough decisions and present an equally tough exterior; also to be a husband to not only a queen but his lover while desperately trying to make things up with her. I really liked how balanced his two sides were. He was so smitten by Oraya, and he actually shows that in his actions. That was beautiful and painful. I can feel the love Carissa poured into this. I need to process and recover.

She hates Rhain for his lies and the fact that he killed Vincent, but at the same time she knows that whatever they shared during the tournament was real, despite all the other lies and half-truths. She is rational enough to see that he did care for her then and still does now.
