The Kurust has definitely transformed the rust and turned it into a really solid surface for painting on. Clean the surface by removing all loose paint, rust, dirt, grease and salt. Then rinse with water and let the surface dry. Hammerite Kurust is a special paint used to transform rust to a clean, paintable surface in 15 minutes. Special precautions should be taken to avoid inhalation of dust during surface preparation of pre-1960’s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead. Caution here is the rusty metal that I will be painting today. I have wire brushed it and cleaned it as instructed by Hammerite themselves.
