Recycling as much of your rubbish as possible. Please place your rubbish in the correct bins and leave them outside your room door on weekdays for collection by the housekeeping team. The Dorothy Wadham Building, on Iffley Road, was designed by Allies and Morrison and opened in 2019. It houses undergraduates, predominantly in their second year of studies. [34] Gardens [ edit ] Wadham is friendly, fun-loving and inclusive, with a liberal, politically engaged and diverse community. We tend to do very well academically and came sixth in the Norrington table in 2020. It’s very central and has a beautiful quad (the most symmetrical in Oxford), a chapel and gardens, as well as a modern library and a new undergraduate centre holding the JCR and college bar (and study spaces!). The University of Oxford has provided advice about the vaccinations that you are strongly advised to have before arriving. The academic year is divided up into three 8-week terms at Oxford: Autumn term is called ‘Michaelmas term’, Spring term is known as ‘Hilary term’ and Summer term as ‘Trinity term’. We strongly recommend that students register with a doctor in Oxford (you will still be entitled to receive medical treatment from your own doctor at home). The College recommends that all Wadham students register with the practice located at 19 Beaumont Street; you do do this via the online portal at www.campusdoctor.co.uk/oxford As one of the bigger colleges of the University, we offer one of the largest selections of courses. We welcome academic excellence, diversity and independence, and are known for our inclusive and welcoming culture.Formal action starts with a report from the tutor(s) to the Tutor for Undergraduates. The Tutor for Undergraduates will usually be able to resolve the situation by meeting with the student and perhaps initiating a period of monitoring in the form of fortnightly reports from the student's tutors. Occasionally a student will be issued with a formal warning, or be required to appear before an Academic Panel. Anyone subject to such formal proceedings is issued with details of the procedure and of their obligations and rights (including the rights of appeal). For further information about the Academic Monitoring Procedures, please see appendix 4. Regularly cleaning your kitchen on a rota with other members of your flat. The Residential Operations Manager will help residents to set up a weekly rota.

You also need your own TV Licence if you are sharing a house with other students and watch live TV or catch up TV on BBC iPlayer in your room, and your room is a separately occupied place (a separate tenancy agreement would normally indicate that this is the case) The Warden is Head of the College and is responsible for overseeing its administration and development. Our students thrive on being taught by internationally renowned tutors and enjoy access to academic skills support, purpose-built study spaces and a library that is open 24/7. Wadham students can also benefit from a professional and dedicated welfare team and disability support. Keith Dyke Prize for best performance in Part I exams for FHS in Molecular and Cellular BiochemistryWe aim to respond to emergency maintenance requests immediately during normal working hours (see below) otherwise within 1 hour of reporting the incident to the Lodge. We aim to respond to urgent maintenance requests within 2 working days and non-urgent requests within 5 working days. Generally we will endeavour to complete repairs as soon as practicable although non-urgent repairs may, where appropriate, be left to the next vacation period. vii) Produce work of a standard commensurate with their individual ability and circumstances and appropriate to the stage they have reached in their course. In most cases this will be of at least 2.1 standard and continued work of a low 2.2 standard, or below, may trigger the College’s academic monitoring procedures ( see appendix 4). The Governing Body is made up of the Warden and Fellows. It has the ultimate responsibility for the governance of the College. Wadham had amongst its fellowship the notable poet John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester (1647–1680) who earned a reputation as the most famous womanizer of his era. [42] [43] The 2004 movie The Libertine, which starred Johnny Depp as Rochester, coincidentally also starred Rosamund Pike, a Wadham alumna. Weeks at Oxford begin on Sundays and are numbered from the start of each term. So the first week of term in October is commonly referred to as the first week of Michaelmas term (MT). By the same logic, Freshers’ week is known as ‘0th week’.

In 1898, the hall was the third largest amongst Oxford colleges after Christ Church and New College. [13] It is notable for its great hammer-beam roof and for the Jacobean woodwork of the entrance screen. The portraits include those of the founders and of distinguished members of the college. The large portrait in the gallery is of John Lovelace, who held Oxford for William of Orange during the Revolution of 1688; the inscription records his role in freeing England 'from popery and slavery'. [20] Chapel [ edit ] Chapel

Maurice Bowra was warden of the college from 1938 until 1970, and was influential in determining the character of the college as open and meritocratic. He was known for his hospitality but also for his waspish wit, and anecdotes about his time as Warden remain in circulation amongst Wadham alumni. A statue of Bowra is in the college gardens, and the college's 1992 Bowra Building bears his name. [ citation needed] Modern day [ edit ] It is important that all students who have received extra time in previous examinations, for example for dyslexia, advise the Academic Administrator ( [email protected]) in their first term: an application has to be made for similar dispensation in any University examination.

As members of Wadham Middle Common Room (MCR), the college's graduates have access to some of the most modern and comprehensive MCR facilities in Oxford. The active graduate student committee organises a wide range of social and academic activities during each term, from exchange dinners, guest nights, wine tasting and weekly Welfare teas, to student-subsidised trips to the theatre and graduate seminars where students present and discuss their research.William Doo and William Doo Jr thanked Lord Patten for his kind words, and Robert Hannigan, Ken Macdonald, and Julie Hage, our Fellow and Development Director, for their vision and dedication to the project, and their friendship. Wadham College is the last major English public building to be created according to the medieval tradition of the master mason. Its front quad is also an early example of the “Jacobean Gothic” style. The main building was erected in 1610–1613. The style of the building is a fairly traditional Oxford Gothic, modified by classical decorative detail. The central quadrangle was originally graveled throughout (it’s lawned today). The Graduate Centre has been “zoned” to provide a variety of spaces to meet the needs of graduates. It features 2 seminar rooms with LCD projectors, a reading room, a library with several networked computers and printer/photocopier, an MCR common room with a bar and more networked computers, an MCR kitchen, a media room with large TV and comfy seating, and a roof terrace garden. It is expected that graduates will respect the facilities and agreed rules of each room and that there will not be a need for active monitoring by staff. If users do experience problems with other users that they cannot resolve, the issue should be reported to the Lodge or Dean.
