Description

The basic Volt models, the 1×2 Volt 1 and 2×2 Volt 2, come with built-in Vintage Mic Preamp mode, which provides a switchable emulation of the Universal Audio 610 mic pre. The Volt 176 and 276 also include 1176-style compressors on their inputs.

The Universal Audio Volt 476P is equipped with four inputs and four outputs, making it ideal for producers, songwriters, podcasters and streamers who want to capture multiple audio sources at once. Nothing can disrupt your workflow like having to constantly unplug and replug your gear. With four preamps at your disposal, you can have more instruments and microphones plugged in at once. Stylish and Rugged Design Use TRS (balanced) audio cables for the best results with a balanced stereo speaker system. Balanced equipment uses three conductor wiring to reduce interference and electrical noise, and to provide better audio quality over longer cable runs. TS connections may be suitable for shorter output cables, where electrical interference noise may not be an issue. This may not quite be Avalon or Focusrite or Apogee or Neve preamp quality, but at this price point it's unbeatable in my view—and sonically, for home studios, assuming you have top quality mics—it's all you need to produce professional-level audio. And this reviewer's ears have been listening to stuff recorded in many top Nashville studios on all the aforementioned gear. The mic pres are lovely on the Volt 476P, clear and transparent and a coup at this price range. For something a little more vibey, you can engage the Vintage button, which adds tube-emulated saturation based on the company’s famous 610 preamp.

Features

You may not need to make both connections. For example, a MIDI controller might only be connected to the MIDI IN on Volt, and a MIDI sound module might only be connected to the MIDI OUT from Volt. (19) USB-C I was really excited to have my first UA product. Just sitting on my desk it looks awesome. Let me preface this review by saying it didn't work for me and I'll tell you why, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work for you. Is this the right time for you to upgrade your audio interface and get something that will add a little bit more to the sound? Well, look no further. The UAD Volt 476P, with the in-built vintage sounding preamps and compression, besides the regular high-quality recording, will tame the peaks of your recordings as well – while adding a touch of vintage sound. mic preamps with vibe-rich tube-emulation circuitry, built-in analog 1176-style compression, clean pro-grade conversion, MIDI ports, and a powerful bundle of music production software programs make the Universal Audio Volt 476P portable 4×4 audio interface a top-notch but reasonably priced win for quality-conscious collaborators, vocalists, musicians, and even content creators equivalent to podcasters and live streamers. Engaging, sturdy, and compact, this USB Type-C interface is equally successful in a computer-based home studio.

Hardware inputs 1-2 are routed directly to the monitor and headphone outputs, and also to the audio software.

For optimum gain, rotate the knob to adjust the input signal level while monitoring the source that is connected, so the input meter (13) shows signal but does not light red. The red input LED lights when the input signal is near 0 dB (clipping). Comes included with a range of premium production software including Ableton Live Lite, Melodyne, UJAM's virtual drummer, Softube guitar and bass amplifiers including Marshall Plexi Classic and Ampeg bass amp. Expandability is also conspicuously absent. There’s no S/PDIF or ADAT connectivity, meaning you can’t grow beyond the 476P without buying a new interface. Who Is It For? The 76 Compressor lets you add clarity and punch to voice, guitars, and more, with an analog compressor based on UA's iconic 1176 Limiting Amplifier.

The Volt 476P also includes expanded outputs for headphones, speakers and outboard gear. It is housed in a rugged metal casing, along with a nice aesthetic touch from UA to add retro wooden side panels.
