When using the product as a base, sand the surface using 80-120 grit sandpaper to ensure it is smooth and all previous finish has been fully removed. Ensure all contaminants are removed as this can lead to uneven absorption and weaker performance of the natural wood preserver. Finally, make sure the surface is dry and the hardwax oil is at room temperature. fl oz (2.5 L) will cover approximately 50m² in one coat / 30m² in two coats depending on the timber and method of application. Returning to the board 24 hours later, we realised that the sauce had in fact left a mark on some of the finishes. The Osmo Polyx-Oil - Satin-matt and the Treatex Hardwax Oil Traditional - Clear Satin and Rubio Monocoat faired worst of the hard wax oils from this test with both of them being stained or marked by the washing up liquid. As mentioned above as apart of the updated test, the washing up liquid proved to be too much for the Blanchon Original Wood Environment. Both the vinegar and cup stain had left marks on the board, though these could potentially be removed with some further wash and care. If you’re applying the Treatex Hardwax Oil over a Treatex Colour Tone or Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural then it’s important you have allowed the base coat to dry before application. Hardwax Oil Natural is not a complete finish in its own right and should either be treated with 2 coats of Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear or should applied as 2 coats over Spruce Colour tone. After a second wash, the board was generally free from any marks, although there was still a slight orange patch on the Osmo and Treatex sections of the board. Short Test - Blanchon Original Wood Environment The Blanchon Original Wood Environment whilst suiting its own individual purpose of providing a more natural unfinished look, it did fall a bit short when subjected to some of the tests.Once again, after two hours we found that the sauce was relatively easy to remove from all finishes with the help of the wash and care product. Our Treatex Hardwax Oil is our recommendation and preferred method in finishing our internal oak doors. We have spent a significant amount of time testing a variety of oils and have found that this particular product offers the best finish by far; it leaves a clear finish so you can still identify the natural characteristics of the wood, such as the colour and graining. The hard-wearing nature of the Blanchon Hard Waxoil meant that there were no stains or marks whatsoever. Application of the first coats were all done under warm conditions where the sun was shining onto the board. These conditions remained the same for all of the finishes.
