Spoon the chocolate into the hearts until they are full. Use your finger to even out the chocolate if you have to: First, I unwrapped the candy canes and set them out in sets of two, in the shape of a heart. I set up two sets of regular-sized candy canes and six sets of mini candy canes. Make sure that they are no sugar crystals on the side of the pan, by brushing them down with pastry brush dipped into hot water. Don’t you love these!? They are so adorable! They would make such a cute treat to take to school, or even to the office. Start by pulling the lighter sugar mixture. You can see that at the beginning the mixture is see-through, but as you carry on pulling and twisting the rope, it gets more and more opaque.

These are the main steps to creating peppermint bark hearts, with some important tips along the way. (You can also scroll down to grab an easy to read printable version of the recipe) Step 1: Place the Candy Canes on a Baking Sheet This is a great way to use up all the extra candy canes that are left over from the Christmas holiday. My neighbor shared this great idea for forming two candy canes into one big heart. It’s perfect for Valentines. While the coating is still wet, top the bark with a generous sprinkle of candy cane pieces all over the top of the heart. Once the joins have been pushed together, leave them to cool for 15 minutes. Once they are cool, tie ribbon around them and hang them on your tree. Make sure you take the plastic off the candy canes first. Place your candy canes on a silicon baking mat on a baking pan or with a pan that has vegetable spray. I arranged them how I wanted them to look when they were done, but they do come out soft and you can mold them later. Set your oven to 250 degrees and cook them for 10 minutes. Right out of the oven they should be playable and easy to mold, caution – they may be warm/hot to the touch. I was easily able to mold them however I wanted. I smooshed the bottoms together and the tops together. I let them cool, placing them in my fridge for faster cooling. Now you can eat them, give them as gifts, or use them as decorations for this Valentine’s Day. They would be cute hanging with a red ribbon.

Immediately after removing the candy from the oven, pinch any open ends together to create a closed heart shape. This was repeated with the rest of the hearts. You can also use a spoon to pour some chocolate on the joints of the heart if you want to be more thorough. I ended up adding some chocolate to a couple to make sure they stayed together.

Or if you wait another month or two, you can tie a little red ribbon around them, and give out heart pop valentines.Arrange candy canes on a parchment covered baking sheet so that the ends are touching and create a loose heart shape. What if your candy canes are all broken? Heat the oven to 300F and bake the candy canes for 3 minutes. Don’t cook them for too long or they will melt completely. Who knew candy canes actually melt!? Our Christmas candy cane heart craft comes with child-friendly instructions and clear photographs for each stage of the craft. Children of all ages and abilities can create their candy cane decorations with confidence. What Other Crafts Can I Make at Home? Chocoley provided the melting chocolate for the insides of these hearts. They sent me 2.5 pounds of their Bada Bing Bada Boom Gourmet Compound Chocolate Candy & Molding Formula in White.
