Description

The new Boarding Actions Core Rules replace the original ones found in Arks of Omen: Abaddon , adapting the new core rules of Warhammer 40,000 to frantic shipboard battles. However, they’re designed to work with the missions – and mission sequences – presented in all five Arks of Omen books,* giving you dozens of missions and a variety of game modes to play through right from the start. So if you’re looking to start Custodes without any gaming context – be aware that 9 models will be make over 500 points, which we’ll discuss below in the points section. Boarding Patrol: Adeptus Custodes – Value

These are sort of like small Combat Patrol boxes made specifically to be fielded for the new Boarding Actions. So, expect them all to have a lot of foot sloggers.Whilst there are a ton of customisation options on these Genestealers, this set must be almost two decades old by now. I hope 10th ed comes with new Nids, because the mould for this set must surely have earned its rest. Boarding Patrol: Tyranids – Points If a unit’s minimum size is less than 5, you can only include that unit in your Boarding Patrol if it is a minimum sized unit.

Rad Exposure: As the battle progresses the radiation fallout from the reactor will spread further across the battlefield and its intensity will grow as it does so. The battlefield is divided up into four Sectors, A through D. Starting with Sector A in battle round 1, the radiation will begin to contaminate the battlefield. While many Warhammer 40,000 battles feature large armies clashing on the field of battle, Boarding Action missions allow you to play out those crucial assaults that can turn the tide of the greater conflict. Boarding Action armies will also look different to what you might be used to. Your forces will not have access to the Warlord Traits, Relics and Stratagems featured in your Codex, but can instead utilise a new range of bespoke options specifically tailored to this deadly form of combat. Over the coming books in the series this will be expanded upon with Faction-specific content and rules. As such, even veteran Warhammer 40,000 players will find an array of new options and challenges to truly sink their teeth into. Now, this perhaps the most unique Boarding Patrol of them all, as it substitutes for a potential Imperial Guard/ Astra Militarum one. I did wonder why this instead of a Guard one, but a work colleague who plays Guard told me that Imperial Guard are for ground combat in the lore, not for naval warfare. Makes sense, but I suspect that most Guard players who want to do Boarding Actions won’t care for that fact. Walls and corners and closed doors also provide cover, making chokepoints a key part of Boarding Actions. Games have an exhilarating ebb and flow, as armies carefully approach defended locations before violence erupts in a fierce struggle for control.** Operate HatchwayOne or more units from your army can start to perform this action at the end of the Move Units step of your Movement phase if they are within 1" of a Hatchway. This action can be performed by any unit that is not within Engagement Range of any enemy models, even if that unit is being affected by a rule that would normally prevent it from performing actions. The action is completed at the end of your Movement phase if no enemy models are within 1" of that Hatchway. If there are any enemy models within 1" of that Hatchway, your opponent can attempt to prevent the action from being completed. If they do so, roll off with your opponent; each player adds the Strength characteristic of one of their models that is within 1" of that Hatchway to their respective scores. If you win, the action is completed; otherwise, the action fails. If completed, that Hatchway opens (if it was closed) or closes (if it was open). The Warhammer Community team has come up with a few of our own sample lists to see what’s possible.

Operate Hatchway: This can also be performed in the Movement Phase, and allows a unit to try to open a door in the Boarding Actions terrain. If there’s an enemy unit on the other side of the door trying to prevent you from opening it and passing through, you roll off to see if you succeed. Now, my first impression with this box is that it doesn’t provide you with a variety of units at all. In fact, it basically leaves you with one strategy really – spam, spam and spam again. The Rubric Marines, being Space Marines, will have good shooting, especially if you get a couple of Soulreaper cannon upgrades in there. The Chaos Spawn provide the melee, but really that’s it. I’m not a Thousand Sons player, but if I were to start, this would not be the Boarding Patrol for me. Here are all the updated Warhammer 40k Boarding Patrol box sets value and pricing in our start collecting 40k savings breakdown with the latest price increases. We’ve already taken our first peek at the rules for this new expansion. Today, we’re joined by Rich Butler from the Warhammer Studio team to have a look at the armies you’ll be building. The immediate difference between the Boarding Patrol and other Warhammer 40,000 Detachments is that nothing is compulsory,” Rich explains. “It’s perfectly viable to take no Troops or HQs whatsoever, allowing lists to lean into clear concepts like an all- Navy Breacher force, or take nothing but Khorne Berzerkers – the gentleman’s choice.” Finally, the Death Guard heed Abaddon’s call, with an obdurate if slimy Boarding Patrol led by a Lord of Virulence. He’s joined by a bodyguard of three Deathshroud Terminators, as well as 10 versatile Plague Marines – three of which are taken from the much-sought-after Plague Marine Reinforcements set.
