So whilst I have not actually tested this exact 10x42 model, everything apart from a few specifications and some aspects of the view will be identical. Thus rather than repeating myself, in this mini-review I will briefly go over the main features on this model and highlight any differences between them. Vortex Optics is based in Wisconsin. In the course of making a wide range of products to suit the Americans taste for shooting anything that moves, they produce a range of binocularsideal for the gentler, more British pastime of pony spotting - often referred to as birding. The Vortex company made a move which is rarely followed at this price point – they didn't raise the price of their new product and significantly enlarged the field of view when compared to the predecessor, taking care of its proper correction at the same time. That's why there aren't even slightest problems with astigmatism, coma, chromatic aberration, and light fall-off. The sharpness is on a very high level in almost 90% of the field of view, a result is a bit weaker than in the previous model, and the distortion is corrected not as well too, but they are the price worth paying because you gain a lot when it comes to other aspects of this pair of binoculars. Twist up and down to precise, intermediate settings to maximize custom fit for comfortable viewing with or without eyeglasses.

Every now and then you come across a pair of binocular that just “feels” right. As soon as I pulled the Viper HD out of its case I knew it was one of those binoculars. The most popular binoculars for birdwatching come with a magnification in the lower range of 8x to 10x. You can achieve a much wider field of view when using binoculars with a lower magnification and also get a brighter image for the same physical size. A pair of 8x40 have 40mm lenses and a brightness factor of 5, the same as a pair of 20x100s which would weigh close on 4 kilos. Binoculars with a lower magnification are also much easier to hold steady - a must unless you rest them on a support or choose a pair with image stabilisation.HD (High Density) extra-low dispersion glass is still used for outstanding edge-to-edge clarity coupled with low-light-conquering XR™ anti-reflective coatings and now a wider field of view making this new range of binoculars even better than before. Minimum focal distance on these is advertised as only 5.1ft, which is excellent and makes these an ideal choice if you also like viewing flowers, insects or even birds from closer ranges. Comparisons Those who are sensitive to light or avoid extra brightness, like seeing mild imagery, which is both bright and soothing. Although Nikon binoculars have multicoated lenses, there are chances of chromatic distortion in it.
