About this deal

If symbolic gifts are to be distributed to fathers, this should take place before the following prayer If it is desired to give a blessing, the section, ‘Let us bless the Lord …’ should be omitted. For all the Church Family

The ‘Lord in your mercy hear our prayer’ response, and the concluding ‘Merciful Father, accept these prayers …’ have been included as options to facilitate connections being made between this service and celebrations of Holy Communion. If these forms are not used in communion services, other choices could be made. Those parts of the service where ‘ad lib’ or unofficial material may be used, or where there is provision made in the Resource Sections, e.g. the Greeting, the Prayers of Intercession, the introduction to the Peace, Prayers at the Preparation of the Table, the Post Communion or other suitable or seasonal prayers, the seasonal or other suitable form of blessing. The Peace Customs vary on the solemnity with which this is done. In some places, variable prayers may be used. These should be preparatory, as the title for this part implies, and not dramatically overshadow the Eucharistic Prayer. The Eucharistic Prayer

One or more readings from the Bible. A Psalm or scriptural Song Sermon An authorized Affirmation of Faith, or Creed Prayers of Intercession At a celebration of Holy Communion, the Apostles’ Creed or the Athanasian Creed in an authorized form may be used in place of the Nicene Creed, or an authorized Affirmation of Faith may be used. Suitable words of introduction or conclusion (such as ‘Let us declare our faith in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit’) to the Creed or Affirmation of Faith may be used. The Nicene Creed Where it is customary for the assembly to be sprinkled with water from the font or to sign themselves with water from the font, this may take place immediately after the Profession of Faith or during a hymn, canticle or song at the conclusion of this form. A Corporate Renewal of Baptismal Vows In addition to the Nicene Creed, the Apostles’ Creed and the Athanasian Creed, these Affirmations of Faith are also authorized.

These are dealt with in the paragraphs headed ‘Preparation’ and ‘Conclusion’ in the authorized Introduction to A Service of the Word ( here), together with Notes 1, 2 and 9 ( here). G 35 Christ became obedient unto death … Intercessions The Lord’s Prayer Going out Affirmation of Faith Blessing and Dismissal A Service of the Word provides the structure which holds everything together, including some dance to the psalm, interviews with a couple just moving to a new job and wanting to thank the congregation for their support, some praise songs and a time of extempore thanksgiving. The service moves to a climax of sung and spoken praise using one of the longer Thanksgivings, ending with the Sanctus. Other things they have used at the climax of the service have been traditional sung texts like the Te Deum and the Gloria, and the first section of one of the Eucharistic Prayers, ending with the Sanctus.
