There is a very different version of “Pour Some Sugar on Me” on the album. Who is singing with you? Def Leppard: Drastic Symphonies (With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) has officially been announced! Release date is May 19, 2023. Some of the songs – “Hysteria” and “Bringin’ on the Heartbreak,” in particular – seem like obvious choices to get the orchestral treatment. How did you decide which songs worked? So and I think that again by having just a couple of songs that are literally less than a year old." It was on a covers album she’d made. She did Song 2 by Blur in a way that’s barely recognisable. She even did Crazy Train by Ozzy on a piano! When we heard her version of Sugar we were all blown away. It really worked as an arrangement. So I asked her if she fancied doing her version of Sugar with us. And it was easy to orchestrate because of the way she did it.”

We decided to create something special where we would have something classic but present it in a brand-new way that would involve making everything work in the context of ‘Drastic Symphonies’. Recording new parts, remixing previous sounds, taking some of our instruments out so the orchestra could breathe and literally making a new album. It was an amazingly inspirational process culminating in the live recording of the RPO at Abbey Road studios in London. An absolute team effort that took a good part of a year. And it allowed Sav to be the front guy on that particular song. And the other guys jsut said you know what The second of the “…..Halos” tunes “Angels (Can’t Help You Now) lends itself to the bombast, and at the other end of the scale “Bringin’ On The Heartbreak” – from the early days – revels in its makeover. But Steve was completely on board. And when Phil came in he was like well yeah that makes total sense So it almost makes the vocal sound, not operatic, but more in that vein. I couldn't possibly sing in an opera voice,

Def Leppard go orchestral on Drastic Symphonies: treading water has never sounded so legacy-enhancing

It’s a busy time for the Leps. Loads of high profile events – a new biography, PAs in Sheffield and London and even playing the Sheffield Leadmill (for the first time apparently, but for a good cause) not to forget the stadium jaunt with Motley Crue which, having conquered America, are set to head into Europe. Once we got started with this, the mantra within the band was “this has got to sound like James Bond”, we wanted this John Barry-type sound”, vocalist Joe Elliott furthered. But I think it was really important to put the two songs from the last album on because for a start Eric had already Cause it's like again what we're saying about we didn't just want to plonk on orchestra over our stuff and leave it at that."

Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad" (Japanese SHM-CD, Blu-ray Audio, vinyl and digital editions only) But for the fact that this band's been together. This line-ups been together 31 years. It was good to be able to Changed all the - I mean if you listen to the drum sounds from the original and then listen to the stuff on here." This iconic UK band remain one of the most important, influential and loved British acts, delighting existing fans and winning over a whole new generation.

All of a sudden it's like. it's a different beast. Again it's James Bond. Or choose your spy movie or car chase Yeah. It's maybe ten, fifteen seconds long. When we originally recorded it was massively longer. But it was just a bit The last leg of the album contains ‘Too Late For Love’, ‘When Love & Hate Collides’ and ‘Kings Of The World’. Violins, piano and huge arrangements deprive the listener of any questionable thoughts regarding whether the album works in this format. Never dropping that signature Def Leppard feel, each song takes the original piece of work and springboards into new and exciting territory.
