It is clean, but not fresh laundry clean or soapy - I just don't see the 'soap' references. Clean as in the crisp scent you'd feel when in a rich orchard in bloom, or in a field of flowers. More orange blossom-clean, a fragrant 'cleanliness' if you will, definitely not the 'freshly washed skin/body/clothes' kind of scent.

When I first saw 5th Avenue, I looked up at all of the tall buildings and felt totally overwhelmed and intimidated, like it was someone else’s world,” said Reese Witherspoon, Elizabeth Arden’s brand ambassador. “Then I discovered if you have the right work ethic, ambition and sense of purpose…the world is whatever you make of it.” Hey, guys, how you doing? I hope you're all well! Anyway, here's another one of my comments. About a scent that I have to use to correct a little mistake of mine :DThis is a gateway floral perfume, meaning -- that if you are someone who has never worn florals before, this one may be a good place to start -- a great introduction to see how this wears with your chemistry. This is a gentle floral, less "in your face" than some others that I have sampled or worn. This would be a great perfume for any woman of any age. (I say women, because this leans more feminine with florals -- although probably anyone could wear this, the overall effect of this perfume is that of a finely milled high end soap - clean, fresh, and attractive without being overtly sexy). I love everything I ever sniffed and tried from Elizabeth Arden (tried them ALL, except for White Tea and its flankers), so perhaps I am biased or just prefer that type of perfume (strong, sweet or flowery, a hint of warmth that is NOT sandalwood, incense, spice, oud or anything else oriental). It does have a zingy hint of citrus, perhaps from the orange blossom, this is why to me, it is fresher as in less sweet than other similar perfumes, but it is in the same 'family' of 'feeling' as, for example, Narciso Rodriguez for Her and Elie Saab Le Parfum - my favorite references. It is not sugar sweet or loud, just very potent and warm - colder than the two, but definitely not cool. For me, 5th Avenue is one of those perfumes that you probably get for Christmas or a birthday. You don't hate it, but you don't love it. But you like it enough to keep it around and on stand-by, for days when you know you don't want to go out without wearing a perfume, but you don't want to waste your really expensive stuff, or use up any of your go-to everyday scents. You just want to have a pleasant smell on you that will stop you being fragrance-naked, but won't attract any attention. Versions made in France or US as opposed to Spain are superior in quality and may fall into the vintage category. It’s best just to steer clear of Spanish bottles in general as they are the most recent.

My in-laws used to own an apartment on Fifth Avenue, near Washington Square, and I can assure you that the real 5th Avenue doesn't smell anything like this. The real 5th Avenue smells like most major cities in the U.S.--like car-exhaust fumes and (intermittently) like garbage and/or restaurant food. Maybe every once in a while some glammed-up blue-blooded gal straight out of a Frank Sinatra song stalks down the sidewalk and you catch a whiff of her perfumed hair, and perhaps the perfume smells like linden and lilac, and that is 5th Avenue to you--this magical reprieve from the usual urban odor, an evanescent glimpse of the good life (although the vintage version of the perfume is reputed to be "eternal"--if only my bottle was!) Midway through the dry-down phase, I detect notes that are more of a light spicy oriental flavor which reminds me of Ysatis, but a lighter/less intrusive spicy floral.... almost like the younger sister (or possibly daughter) of Ysatis by Givenchy). This has a similar floral essence to some perfumes in the sunshine-y yellow floral family like Jessica Simpson's Vintage Bloom, which is another one of my all time favorites for spring/summer. The overall essence of this perfume reminds me of another one of my very favorite spring/summer florals - Burberry London... Park Avenue would be a sister fragrance to BL, for sure! Got it as a casual day-to-day workhorse for a great price. After testing it I got to really, really appreciate it. I wouldn't have thought before that I will be able to enjoy such scents, but these days I don't try to be different for the sake of being different. If it works well and it's not too costly - I'll take it. My impressions: If you are the type that likes the candy, sweet type fragrances this might not be for you. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.Apart from that the fragrance is fresh, as I said, and fits very well now into the summer, as a nice day scent. You can test it, as it is a daily companion that always goes. A fast, uncomplicated scent, which smells nice and where you don't have to think about it for a long time, if you don't know what to spray on :)

Having tested it for a really long time now, I can say that this is a perfect universal scent fit for any time of the day and year, and any occasion. I wore this fragrance during casual days where a trip to the shops would be the maximum, and I also wore it to formal events and special occasions. The problem is is that this perfume has far too many notes that clash with each other and don't blend harmoniously together. I don't know if 5th Avenue by Elizabeth Arden wants to be a white floral, a yellow floral or something else and I have a hard time envisioning where and when one would wear it. There is also something about it that is cheap smelling and like something you would find from a perfume insert in an old 1990's fashion magazine. Elizabeth Arden puts a lot of fragrance on the market, much of it trivial, so it's easy to forget that some of its classics are very good. This is one of them. I'd overlooked it for years, even after complimenting a colleague on her sensational perfume and being told it was 5th Avenue. That was about 5 years ago. Anyway, better late than never. The version I have has good silage and longevity. It lasts at least 8 hours (I’ve sprayed this before bed in the past and it was still there in the morning, faintly, but noticeable). After about 4-5 hours it becomes more of a skin scent though. It is also a light and subtle scent so it’s never overly present (so it’s office safe). At any rate, it has been a lovely parade, but the scent of peaches and roses gradually fades to a light violet with sandalwood. It becomes a quiet, woodsy sweetness that is light and comforting. This lasts for about 2 to 3 minutes. It stays for long, but very close to my skin. Which is perfect for me in a day wear scent. I don't want to be the type of girl who leaves a chemtrail behind. I have high sensitivity, so it would actually keep bothering me during the day. Some can say it's boring, but let me assure you, you will stand out of the crowd of edible fruity floral scents. I feel elegant and even old-fashioned in it, even if I'm in my adidas sweatpants. I think it's for a woman who doesn't try to impress every person she meets, but can't be bothered to be a non-conformist either (it's me lol). I think it's a very polite scent if you work with people. This is how Chanel Chance flank-o-rama should smell imo. The sparkling fresh floral scent of My Fifth Avenue evokes the energy of the most famous street in the world, featuring crisp citrus notes for a surprise burst of freshness complemented by an embrace of feminine florals. The notes evolve into the warmth and emotion of musk and woods, reflecting a woman’s strength and resilience, imparting the scent of success. Cassis is not mentioned in the list of ingredients, so it could just be something that is taking on a smell that is similar to the note of cassis. (This smells like ivy, a strange green note with my chemistry). Sillage was moderate and the longevity of 5th Avenue was an average 6 hours on my skin. This would be best worn during the spring time during the day, so as to avoid it becoming more cloying on the skin during the summer. For a green floral, it has better lasting power than most but still not all that great. Maybe its just me because my skin tends to eat up perfume. I can see this scent being worn all year around, all occasions although I don't see this as sexy scent, its very elegant and classic.
