A reviewer for Love in Panels! praised the decision to give Persephone more agency than in the original story, saying that "it's that agency, her claiming of her own body and sexuality, that pulls me like a magnet to these tales." [16] Nicole Mejias of Crunchyroll said that while the story is a "bit mature and dramatic," the suspense and romance between Hades and Persephone is gripping, while the "art is colorful and gorgeous." [29] Awards for Lore Olympus Year Rachel Smythe’s Lore Olympus is a stunning reimagining of classical myth. Smythe adapts the story ofPersephone and Hades, removing it from its dark origins and building a brand-new epic with her owncomplex and beautiful characters. The rest of the gods, nymphs, and creatures of Smythe’s world are theicing on top.” —Liv Albert, author of Greek Mythology: The Gods, Goddesses, and Heroes Handbook and creator of Let’s Talk About Myths, Baby! podcast

Hebe is the goddess of youth. She is the youngest daughter of Zeus and Hera. She also has the ability to concoct numerous types of alcoholic beverages. If reading about mythological god clowning around while spreading gossip and scandal is intriguing to you, Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe is a must. Setting Greek myth in a modern day society of fast cars and bars, Lore Olympus is comedic and playful with the well-known characters in a way that is fresh and just thoroughly entertaining. Originally released as a webtoon (read it here), this graphic novel compiles the first 25 episodes in full color to show off Smythe’s wonderfully stylized artwork. Using the Hades and Persephone story as an anchor around which all the other god’s stories play out and cross paths, Smythe retells the myth without the horrific rape and instead as a cute story of shy romance. These are the gods of Olympus here, so while it is playful and fairly lighthearted it is also dark and filled with toxic interactions, manipulations and assaults—as one would probably expect but heads up. This is a treat for those who know the stories, but if you are unfamiliar with Greek mythology or only have a basic understanding this book won't make you feel outside of it at all and, if anything, will really welcome you in and be easy to follow. With sharp and colorful art that really pops and spirited, modernized retellings that demonstrate a true love for the source material, Lore Olympus is a delightful success. Hermes is the god of speed and travel, depicted as a muscular red athlete. He was friends with Persephone before she came to Olympus and frequently hangs out at Artemis and Persephone's house. He is one of Hades' soul collectors at Underworld Corp. He loves three things, money, his Mother, Maia, and annoying Apollo.

The rumor mill of Olympus is constantly churning, but Persephone and Hades are all anyone can talk about. With the constant gossip creating intense pressure on the pair, they decide to slow down their budding romance and focus on sorting out their own issues first. Okay, but why is this so good? I legit can't put it down, this is even better than the first book. I already knew the characters were interesting, but damn, aren't they interesting? I pretty much have them all mapped out in my head, things like who is heading directly towards my 'I'll just pretend you don't exist' list and 'you have my full interest' list. I guess it's safe to say Hera and Hades are way up their game over here, they are hands down, giving off the best kind of energy. Rachel Smythe put so much depth and uniqueness in all of them that it was hard to single them out. Let's see, maybe Apollo? I even liked Minthe 'the other woman' but Apollo cuts a nice shot to the exception rule. I hope he tones down the douchiness, cause I'd really hate to hate my girl Artemis's brother, she's such a sweetheart. The art style and storyline are put together so well, no wonder it's so addictive. Chaos reigns in Olympus as Zeus publicly declares Persephone a traitor and issues a warrant for her arrest. But Hades defies his brother’s decree, sheltering Persephone in the Underworld—and as the pair spend more time together, they are able to speak openly about their pasts. The goddess of spring admits the truth behind the bloody secret that led to Zeus’s ire, and the king of the Underworld shares the trauma he suffered at the hands of his power-hungry father, Kronos.

Retailers:

Kronos is the titan of time. He is depicted as a gigantic man with skin that looks like the night sky. He was a tyrannical leader and when Hades was six-years-old he swallowed his son and kept him imprisoned for thirteen years. Hades and Poseidon were eventually saved by Zeus and Kronos was eventually imprisoned in Tartarus. This event is still traumatizing for Hades. Kronos nearly escaped Tartarus when he was able to put all of the scarred traitors into long comas, and was able to possess the bodies of people in the Underworld, including Hermes, Hecate, and Hades. His plans were thwarted when Persephone ate from the pomegranate tree, became queen of the Underworld, and defeated him in combat. It's easy to see why the internet has fallen in love with Lore Olympus. This dazzling interpretation of the classic Greek myths is as charming as it is provocative, and as witty as it is startlingly romantic. Prepare to be swept away!" -Marissa Meyer, No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of The Lunar Chronicles When her roommate, Artemis, takes her to a party, her entire life changes: she ends up meeting Hades and feels an immediate spark with the charming yet misunderstood ruler of the Underworld.
