The first Golden Snitch to be made in real life is probably the one used in the Harry Potter movies. The Harry Potter filmmakers made it a point to make the Snitch as realistic and accurate as possible, despite the graphics covering all the flight scenes for it. The iconic Golden Snitch used in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was made of a metal ball made of copper and later plated with gold, with art nouveau shapes carved on it and combined the elements of industrial design to make an aerodynamically accurate Snitch. Furthermore, two thin feather-like structures in the form of a sail were added to it.

Today, the player who is responsible for finding and catching the Golden Snitch is referred to as a Seeker, but the original name was Hunter. Eventually, the entire population of Golden Snidgets began to drop dangerously low, and the Golden Snitch was created as an alternative. Then there is Hogwarts. A place of learning and magic, of mysteries and taught mythologies, and the world where Harry transforms from orphan to hero. At the start we are introduced to its golden associations through plates and goblets, and the gold and scarlet colours of Gryffindor. It is also notable that gold is associated with the sharing of wisdom and knowledge — it’s a perfect colour for the place where witches and wizards learn their trade.Ultimately, I think this is a Firebolt-aided win. Yes, Harry pulls some great moves and deserves style points for swiftly dealing with Malfoy’s prank, but he was out-flown by Cho and misses several opportunities to end the match earlier than he did. Vs. Slytherin Match Summary: In the end, Harry’s eventual catch of the Snitch is largely due to the Firebolt. There was simply no way that Cho and her Comet Two Sixty could’ve kept up with Harry in a dead sprint to the Snitch. Had she had a better broom, Cho would’ve had a fighting chance. She really outflew Harry in this matchup and showed a lot of talent. Put them in equal brooms and I think Cho clearly wins. Put Cho in the Firebolt and Harry in the Comet Two Sixty and Cho dusts him no question. The game was played with three types of balls: the Golden Snitch, Quaffle and Bludger. [2] Rules [ ] This... is the Golden Snitch, and it's the most important ball of the lot. It's very hard to catch because it's so fast and difficult to see. It's the Seeker's job to catch it. You've got to weave in and out of the Chasers, Beaters, Bludgers, and Quaffle to get it before the other team's Seeker, because whichever Seeker catches the Snitch wins his team an extra hundred and fifty points, so they nearly always win. That's why Seekers get fouled so much. A game of Quidditch only ends when the Snitch is caught, so it can go on for ages —" — Description of the Snitch and a Seeker's job [src]

Thereafter, it became customary to set frightened Snidgets loose during games. As a tribute to Bragge, 150 points were given to the team that caught the Snidget. This Snidget-catching craze naturally harmed the bird's population (as Snidgets are very fragile birds, and a simple human grip is enough to crush them to death), but the wizarding community was then unwilling to stop this barbaric activity and ceased to use Snidgets only when the bird was labelled as endangered. [1] Furthermore, according to the rules of the game, the Golden Snitch can only be caught by the seeker of either team and it marks the final moment of a game as catching the Snitch declares the end of the game. Harry Potter is strongly associated with the Golden Snitch for several reasons. Most importantly, he proved his abilities as a skilled Quidditch seeker when he caught the Snitch with his mouth in his first-ever game. Furthermore, he was given the same Snitch which contained a Deathly Hallow inside it by Dumbledore. Not only is this a rather garish way to make your protagonist look good, it makes the rest of the game totally irrelevant. Who cares about the quaffle? Why even bother with goalies and beaters and all the other Seussian bits and bobbles that comprise a Quidditch match? Just have two seekers chase a Snitch around until one of them catches it and call it a day. That’s all Quidditch really is. The rest is window-dressing. Rowling has also kept her lips sealed involving another mystery related to a certain Golden Snitch. In the wizarding world, there is a story often told about a Golden Snitch with a mysterious fate. In 1884, there was a Quidditch match taking place on Bodmin Moor, and the game had stretched on for a total of six arduous months. Both teams supposedly forfeited, frustrated with their Seekers. It is rumored that the Snitch is still flying freely in the area, still undiscovered to this day.During the final of the 1473 Quidditch World Cup, all seven hundred fouls were committed. These naturally included all 11 aforementioned as well as: Quidditch makes use of three balls – the Quaffle, which is used by the chasers to score goals by throwing them through the opponent team’s hoops, which fetches the team 10 points. The second ball, called the Bludger is used by the beaters of the team to aim at the players of the opponent teams to distract and impede during the match. The Snitch as described above carries 150 points and is used to end the match when caught by the seeker of one of the playing teams. Players must not stray over the boundary lines of the pitch, although they may fly as high as desired. The Quaffle must be surrendered to the opposition if any player leaves the boundary (it is unknown what the penalty is if a player on defence leaves the pitch). [1]

Seekers Are Usually The Smallest And Most Lightweight Players

In fair conditions, Harry and Gryffindor take on Ravenclaw. This is Harry’s first match riding his new Firebolt, which is described as the “fastest broom in the world”. The match starts and Harry is followed closely by Ravenclaw Seeker Cho Chang who he has developed a bit of a crush on. Cho keeps darting in front of Harry, forcing him to change direction. Harry spots the Snitch and dives for it. He almost gets to it, but is forced to veer out of the way to dodge a Bludger and loses sight of the little golden ball.
