So, let’s just forget about the name for now and focus on this: smoky and savory sausages wrapped in a blanket of crisp Yorkshire pudding. Plus, it’s effortless to make and ridiculously tasty. Once you’ve tried it, I’m sure you’ll add it to your weekly rotation. What Is a Toad in the Hole? While its important to be sure the pork sausages are cooked thoroughly - where air frying each one close to their oven cooking directions will solve that - you don't want to over do what is basically frozen Yorkshire pudding batter.

People also refer to it as Yorkshire pudding toad in the hole. This is because a toad in the hole features Yorkshire pudding batter. Air Fryer Yorkshire PuddingsNOTE: To decanter the upside down toad in the hole on to a waiting warm plate, press the plate on top of the foil tray while holding both plate/foil tray; then tip the right way up so the toad in the hole is sitting on the plate. Summarise Now its a case of keeping an eye on the rising batter because you really don't want it to burn. You must aim for a dark golden brown risen batter which will provide a light crispy texture - as oppose to a hard crunchy bite which isn't nice to eat at all. Complete the dish. Remove the sausages from the oven and pour the batter over them. It should cover them about 3/4 of the way.

Don’t open the oven while baking. This is especially important during the first 20 minutes. Opening the door will cause the oven’s temperature to drop, which might cause your batter to not rise. Its vital to preheat the air fryer to ensure the instructions I laid out are accurate, but there is a little preparation to do before you can begin to air fry. Six minutes into the air frying process, the frozen Yorkshire pudding batter turned into a pool of liquid, in which the foil tray helped to retain the batter. Batter once liquified, will then begin to cook like regular Yorkshire pudding batter, and will rise over the course of its approximate 40 minute air frying time. The foil tray will help to retain the melting batter and thus will allow it to rise up rather than look like a flat pancake. Because Yorkshire pudding is an easy batter similar to making pancakes it is a very cheap family dinner. Add lard. Animal fat gets hotter than vegetable oil. So, if you want to guarantee that your pudding will rise, add a little lard to the dish before you bake the sausages. This will make the sausages release a bit of their fat.

Optional step to finish off your air fried frozen toad in the hole, would be to lightly cook the underside, which will be cooked but have a taste and texture that can be improved upon, and thus we can air fry the underside of the toad in the hole. Cooking a toad in the hole in an air fryer from frozen is easy as air frying any frozen ready meal, though you do need to keep an eye on the batter to make sure it doesn't burn - which will cause a horrible crunchy texture and burn taste. Bake the sausage. Pour the oil into a baking dish. Then, arrange the sausages in a single layer in the oil. Bake for 10 minutes. Meanwhile…

Normally, gravy is made with the meat juices of a roast, but since we’re not working with one, we’ll need to improvise. On this occasion, the internal temperature reached a better than good 207°F / 97°C with just 6 minutes remaining on the full 40 minute cooking time.

Vary the sausages. Some great ones include Italian sausages, Jimmy Dean breakfast links, and Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausages. Mmm. Get in my belly! If you don’t have any sausages on hand, that’s okay too! You can use whatever meat you have. Perfect if you have leftovers from last night. Only when the frozen toad in the hole is cook as instructed, will it be a good idea to tip the toad in the hole upside down, so you can introduce a little heat to the pale underside, to produce a little texture. Use a metal baking dish instead of ceramic. Metal absorbs heat well, and you want your cooking vessel to get as hot as possible. It’s important for the vegetable oil to be super hot and bubbly, as this will help the Yorkshire pudding to rise properly. Talking about the Yorkshire pudding, we also have a recipe for air fryer Yorkshire pudding. It has both homemade and frozen in there and it is ideal for making before you do toad in the hole so that you can understand it if you have not eaten Yorkshire puddings or toad in the hole before. Why Is Toad In The Hole Flat? And don’t forget the salt and pepper to season the dish to suit your tastes! How to Make Toad in the Hole

Frozen Toad in the Hole temp/time table

Oven directions would expect me to cook it at 210°C/190°C fan, for 40-45 mins. But no way would you be able to air fry at this temp. and time without vastly over cooking it.
