Janani K. (13 November 2020). "Captain GR Gopinath praises Soorarai Pottru, says it's heavily dramatised, but captures true essence". India Today . Retrieved 13 November 2020. Summer Schedules from 30th March 2008 to 25th October 2008". Simplifly Deccan. Archived from the original on 26 August 2008 . Retrieved 14 June 2016. Through the merger with Kingfisher Airlines, Simplifly Deccan became a subsidiary of United Breweries Group. [27] Headquarters were located on Cunningham Road in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka. [38] Livery [ edit ] Deccan's helicopters were chartered by most politicians and the company also got involved in many rescue missions in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kabul and South India. The 2020 Indian Tamil-language film Soorarai Pottru was partly inspired by events from the life of Gopinath and is based on his memoir Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey. The Film's Hindi language name is Udaan(2020) is inspired by book 'simply fly ' now streaming on prime video. [25] Books by Gopinath [ edit ]

This is one of most inspiring book which I read recently .Most of us would have watched south Indian movies of actor Suriya ‘ Soorarai Pottru’ movie inspired from book ‘Simply Fly’ by Capt.G.R Gopinath by person who started Deccan charters which was India’s first helicopter charter service which later started one of India’s first budget flight service Air Deccan. The one thing I didn't like about this book was the lag I felt in the middle. To be honest, I didn't like the chapters that showcased his experiences as a Politician. It's purely my own personal opinion. Some may like that but I didn't like it.On 11 March 2006, Air Deccan Flight 108 made a hard landing and skidded off runway 27 at HAL Airport in Bengaluru. The aircraft was an ATR 72-500 registered VT-DKC flying between Coimbatore and Bengaluru. [49] Five passengers received minor injuries, and the aircraft suffered major damage to its undercarriage. [50] The airport was closed for almost five hours following the incident. [51] In the end, the aircraft was sold to be used for spares. [49] In popular culture [ edit ] I started reading this book after watching a Tamil movie named Soorarai Potru. It was adapted from this book. I wanted to read this book first and then planned on watching the movie but, it didn't happen.

I have read and watched many Autobiographies before. This is my first time reading an autobiography novel in தமிழ்! Operating under the brand name Air Deccan, it will commence operations in December 2017 with flights between Mumbai and Nashik. [ needs update] Air Deccan will operate 19-seater Beechcraft 1900D turboprop aircraft that are suitable for short-haul flights. The airline has plans to connect Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Shillong to regional towns in the vicinity of these cities. Simply Fly is a biography of Captain Gopinath. The book is large and in the middle it becomes little boring. That is because the outcomes of his various ventures become predictable. In throughout length of book he, with brutal honesty, writes what he really did and not what we would like to read. How a person who keeps on trying and experimenting never fail I the longer run, how self-belief is a must else you are deemed to fail, he assures. I would rate this one as 4.5 stars. In 2003, on the planned launch flight from Begumpet airport, Hyderabad to Vijayawada, having onboard guests including Pratap Reddy, M Venkaiah Naidu and other political leaders, one of the engines caught fire while taxiing for takeoff and the flight was aborted. All passengers survived the incident. [48] However, Gopinath was admitted to a Kannada medium school quite late and straight away he joined Standard V. In 1962, Gopinath cleared the admission test and joined Sainik School, Bijapur. The school helped and prepared Gopinath to clear the NDA entrance exams.Krishnan, Rishikesha (2008). Simplifly Deccan operated a fleet of ATR 42, ATR 72 and Airbus A320 aircraft. For routes of higher demand between major cities, Simplifly Deccan used its larger Airbus A320s. "Can this marriage work?". Business Today. Archived from the original on 22 June 2016 . Retrieved 18 June 2016. Simplifly Deccan and Kingfisher continued to operate domestically with their own airline codes. Unless the airlines consolidated under a single set of codes, the Ministry of Civil Aviation required Kingfisher to use Deccan's codes on international routes; Mallya, on the other hand, wanted to use Kingfisher's codes. [36] On 29 August 2008, both airlines started using Kingfisher's codes. Simplifly Deccan also migrated to Kingfisher's reservation system and was renamed Kingfisher Red. In April 2017, Deccan charters bid for and won 34 regional Indian routes under the UDAN scheme. [20] At the time it ceased operations, Simplifly Deccan flew to 52 destinations across India. It had bases at seven Indian cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai. [41] The airline opened a base at Thiruvananthapuram in April 2006; [42] however, it ended flights to the airport in early 2008. [c] Fleet [ edit ] A Simplifly Deccan Airbus A320 taxiing at the Mumbai airport in March 2008 Instead, we are taken on a journey from the author's childhood in the village of Gorur to this stint as the owner of India's first LCC (low cost carrier) bringing even the Tier 2 & 3 towns on India's aviation map. The overall story is interesting though not that captivating. The first half covers his childhood, military days, organic farming and sericulture experience and subsequent success and his initial business ventures. There a lot of digressions in this half. The second half where he sets up India's first charter helicopter service and later the first Indian LCC (which he later sells to Kingfisher) is fast paced and more than compensates for the first part. I felt that the author became too 'preachy' and pompous sometimes & I felt like saying: "Ok Boomer!" Most importantly this book suffers from the disadvantage that all autobiographies face. The book doesn't give a comprehensive picture of the author's life as we see it only from his perspective. He isn't able to reflect on his failures. The book doesn't fully explore why Deccan actually failed. The author makes only a cursory mention of Deccan's issue prior to its sale. As the book was published in 2009, the rise and fall of his cargo business, the closure of Kingfisher and his not so successfull second stint with commercial air travel under the UDAN program are not covered in the book. He was born as son of school teacher and later passed NDA exam and started his service in Indian Army. After retirement he started his entrepreneur journey as a farmer. During his marriage he had to struggle a lot and his wife was there to support him. Later he planned to start a helicopter charter business and had to face many bureaucratic hurdles. His struggle to start his business are portrayed in this book .Simplifly Deccan was operating the following aircraft in September 2007: [46] [47] Simplifly Deccan fleet Schedules". Simplifly Deccan.
