Description

Their latest series, the “Super Series” is their most recent offering to the world of “radio with a difference”, a series which has a very striking flagship model. Ruark produces speaker systems, a hi-fi radiogram and music systems as well as a standalone radio. Its product range is relatively small due to the size of the company and the need to keep quality standards high. BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) speaker drivers utilise flat diaphragm transducer technology and combine the performance attributes of a flat panel speaker with the pistonic movement of a conventional loudspeaker, resulting in a high performance compact drive unit that develops wide dispersion and an expanded sweet spot.

So I find myself in a position where I have paid quite a lot of money for a radio that doesn't work properly that should be covered by a 2-year warranty, but thanks to Revo being taken over by Telstar, that warranty is worthless. The Revo SuperSystem is by far the biggest and heaviest at 43 x 22 x 16.5 centimetres and 9.8 kilogrammes as against 34 x 18.5 x 12 centimetres and 3.6 kilogrammes for the Ruark. It also delivers the most volume to the point where one review believes it’s only suitable for large rooms and recommends turning off the loudness mode in any case. If space is at a premium, therefore, the Ruark R2 Mk3 may be your choice. Most of their current products include ‘Super’ in the name (SuperCD, SuperConnect, SuperSystem etc.) The engineering that went into this unit also means that you continue to access the same unbeatable music quality at any volume. Even if you crank the sound up all the way, you’ll be able to achieve the same composure with even the most complex tunes. The 15cm bass driver certainly helps to support this, ensuring that you can always obtain a rich and warm undercurrent in your songs. As well as sounding great, their radios are also incredibly stylish and will enhance the look of any room in the house.Like the R5, the R7 has an internet tuner, so you can listen to thousands of stations from around the world using WiFi.

The Revo SuperSystem is the flagship of the Revo range which is focussed on compact single chassis devices that are intended to be used as standalone systems. What sets the Revo apart from many of its rivals is that is equipped with a specification that goes a long way to justifying the use the word 'Super' in the title. The SuperSystem is able to offer a range of functionality that should allow it to take on a number of roles in a household. As well as the internal features, the SuperSystem boasts a smattering of additional inputs – one optical and one RCA analogue. There is also a digital output and a wired LAN connection if you find yourself in a place with weak wireless. The chances are that these features won't see a huge amount of use but they give the scope to connect a TV or other external source to the SuperSystem and boost the functionality a little further. To ramp up your musical experience even further, the Revo SuperSystem comes with a unique 80-watt amplifier that comes from two BMR flat-panel speakers on the device. This helps to deliver an amazingly powerful yet subtle sound experience. You can also use the system to provide your morning alarm call if you like. Sound quality is one of the most important factors when it comes to choosing a radio. While there are lots of good budget radios on the market, their sound quality can be disappointing. They are based in the Scottish market town of Lanark, and have won several awards for the performance and design of their products since having been founded in 2004. When you hear how it sounds, you’ll be glad of that control. The fine attention to detail and the care taken in building the SuperSystem has resulted is open sound with clarity, detail and deep rich bass. No colouration, no distortion. Some sources say that it doesn’t work particularly well in smaller rooms, but that’s a very minor gribble. Revo, similarly, has a restricted range of products that includes speakers, music systems and digital radios. All are available in wooden cabinets for their acoustic properties combined with aluminium facias and speaker grilles. Models Compared
