Description

Taking photos with the Mini SE is a breeze, not least because there aren’t a huge number of options. You can aim the camera any angle between straight down and directly forward; an extended setting even allows it to tilt up 20˚. The base model is well equipped in all markets, and includes heated seats and a heated steering wheel, an 8.8-inch infotainment system with navigation, plus auto LED headlights and wipers. Other trims add a power moonroof and power folding mirrors, leather seats, a Harman-Kardon audio system, adaptive cruise control, and self parking. We already looked at the gimbal, and this is a good point to reiterate that resolution is only one measure of the quality of drone video. Video is stable and 2.7K is plenty sharp for most uses. Unlike the Mini 3, however, the camera remains horizontal, so lower resolution is exposed if cropping for vertical format. Similarly the digital zoom is more of a novelty and even at 2x will expose the limitations of a 12 megapixel sensor. The various Walmart leaks had suggested that the DJI Mini SE would be much closer to the 2019 DJI Mavic Mini in terms of specs and ability, and almost identical bar a few exterior design tweaks.

Upgraded Wind Resistance - DJI Mini SE can resist 29-38kph winds and take off at a max altitude of 4,000 meters, so your footage is stable even when flying along a windy coastline or high above an alpine forest. The most obvious exterior update is in front, where Mini's familiar grille shape remains, but is closed for better aerodynamics. Both the plug-shaped 'E' logo and 'S' emblems on the rear hatch, front repeaters, and door sills are painted yellow. Price is a non-binding recommendation of the manufacturer (including VAT, excluding transportation costs). Prices shown may differ. Your MINI retailer will gladly give you more information on models available, options and binding price information. Does it drive like a Mini?

Secondly, these DJI drones are known for their very excellent cameras. With this drone, you are not just getting a camera for which you can see what the drone sees (a necessity for flying) but rather an aerial photography device. The camera is so good you could absolutely think of this drone as a flying camera. Really, I would rate it about as good as a point-and-shoot or an iPhone 12. Another thing to note about the camera is that it is on a gimble, so your photos and videos will be crystal clear and right on point. The colour accuracy from the drone's camera is phenomenal. Pushing the EV down slightly offers more detail in the highlights; a degree of compromise is needed without the option of Raw. (Image credit: Adam Juniper/Digital Camera World) DJI Mini SE Video While the Mini Cooper SE supports wireless (and wired) Apple CarPlay, it never worked for us, no matter what we tried. This is odd, considering Apple CarPlay is usually bulletproof on other vehicles we've tested.

Video is captured at either 2.7K 30fps (that’s 2720 x 1530 pixels) or 1080p at up to 60fps. As a low-resolution ‘economy’ option, this is better than you might expect. The bitrate is 40Mbps, which is also a bit lower than some, especially since the only compression algorithm option is H.264, not H.265. That's not to say the Mini Cooper SE is always high strung. With two levels of regen (high for one-pedal driving, and low to coast and creep), plus four drive modes to choose from (Sport, Mid, Green, and Green+), it calms down when you want it to.Obstruction Sensitivity: Due to its reliance on WiFi connectivity, the Mini SE can be obstructed by large objects like trees, buildings, or houses. This obstruction sensitivity may limit its usability in certain environments, particularly when flying in areas with significant obstacles or structures that could disrupt the WiFi signal. Pilots need to exercise extra caution and maintain a clear flight path to ensure a stable connection and avoid potential signal disruptions during flights. While it's nimble and tossable, it's still compliant enough to keep its composure on bumpy roads. The ride is pleasantly stiff, but not as punishing as some earlier Minis. Photo settings can be changed in flight. Live video preview is 720p and easy to fly with. (Image credit: Adam Juniper/Digital Camera World)
