Description

As they are presented in the current Index army list, Chaos Knights can’t gain Marks of Chaos to show their favor to one or the other of the Chaos Gods. Marked Knights were a big, flavorful feature of the army in ninth edition 40k, so we expect something like them will reappear when Knights eventually get their 10th edition codex. Harbingers of Dread Skyreaper Protocols: Covered earlier, gives a Helverin War Dog re-rolls against fliers. Very good if you have one in your list, but tragically worded so it doesn’t cross-apply to Moiraxes.

Where dual thermal is the quantity, this is the quality. Having one of these as a Dreadblade Iconoclast gives you huge flexibility to turn it into a murder engine appropriate to the situation. If you see enemy planes, you give it the Helm of Warp Sight, and it tears them from the sky. If you see enemy hordes, you take Vow of Carnage and katamari this forwards until it can stomp out entire units in a single phase. If you see enemy vehicles, taking Vow of the Beastslayer means it at least competes – and if they’re titanic or characters, you slap on the Path to Glory pact for hit re-rolls. When you sit down to build a Chaos Knights list the question you start with is “how many big knights do I want to take?” Most players have settled now on the idea that lists want to take a Knight Desecrator (Diamonas optional), after which the question becomes how many war dogs you want to include. While there are some two-knight lists out there that run Desecrator/Abominant, lists have recently begun to converge into two groups:The War Dogs aren’t really much different posability wise then the existing Armigers kit, just the same left or right step, waggle of limbs and a twist of the head. What they do have though is bits, three distinct head options including one with different faces along with a ton of little pointy bits in different flavors and even a bird for the carapace means that you can do a ton of decently unique versions of the same model. Given how many you might consider bringing, that’s an incredibly good move, particularly when you glance over at the imperial side of things where you get faces and that’s it. Don’t miss all the new Chaos Knights Datasheets, Abilities, and Bonds rules for their updated 9th Edition Warhammer 40k codex. HQ: Sorcerer in Terminator Armour with Familiar, Force Stave, Inferno Combi-Bolter (Warlord – High Magister), Relic: Dark Matter Crystal

points might seem like a lot to dedicate to an “allied” choice, but this Detachment has a place in pretty much any Chaos force. Between the War Dog autocannons and the Knight Desecrator’s laser destructor, you’ll have some flexible firepower. Whilst we will do everything we can to meet the delivery times above, there may be factors outside of our control and we cannot guarantee delivery within this time frame. FAQ Changes. Several post-Nephilim FAQ changes tweaked the faction. The Stratagem A Long Leash can now be used in either player’s Command phase, while Aura of Corruption got cheaper on War Dogs and more expensive on Tyrant-Class models. The biggest of these however was the adjustment to Storm of Darkness. We all saw this one coming, but having to do the Storm action in your own Morale phase makes it much less brokenly good (though it’s still decent). It’s worth noting with this change you can only ever score 12 points on this secondary since you don’t score at the end of the game.

Final Thoughts

Before we begin we’d like to thank Games Workshop for sending us a preview copy of the boxed set for review purposes. What’s in the Box? Thunderous Charge – After this model finishes a charge, roll a D6 for each enemy unit within 1″; on a 4+, that unit suffers D3 mortal wounds. Give this one a miss, far too marginal. Knight Tyrants are analogous to the mighty Knight Castellan and Knight Valiant, fielding the same immense armament. Similarly, War Dogs are a Chaotic corruption of the loyalist Armiger-class Knight, with the Executioner and Huntsman built to the same standards as the Armiger and Warglaive (but with spikes on).
