Oskar Schlemmer- German painter, sculptor, and head of the theatre workshop, Schlemmer's philosophies regarding the creative process were key in guiding students towards innovation, originality, and creative productivity.

The BN0021 is a very well designed and very affordable alternative to the bigger names in Bauhaus watch design. The watch comes in a range of sizes. The 35.5mm caters to vintage tastes and the 41mm is more in keeping with contemporary expectations. Schlemmer’s costume designs mirrored the same experimentation with shape and color. They transformed actors into machine-like forms that resemble the cultural concern with industry during the movement. The lugs are slightly arched so that the watch sits comfortably on the wrist. Today, the Bauhaus is a popular destination for architecture enthusiasts on a pilgrimage, she said —even if the construction no longer meets today's building regulations. "You have to experience this place for a longer period of time to be able to understand its advantages,"Isbilen said. "The large windows suit this place,"she noted. "You can open them on both sides. It is pleasant to work when it is hot outside, so the building is efficient in another sense as well." For Nomos, graphic designer Susanne Günther was central to the creation of their minimalist watches.

A contemporary piece with a style unlike any other, the Hamilton American Classic RailRoad brings reliability and a design scheme that you do not usually expect from the American-Swiss watchmaker. Versatile and utterly minimalist, this Hamilton American Classic watch is a timepiece for any occasion. But Meyer also generated a great deal of conflict. As a radical functionalist, he had no patience with the aesthetic program and forced the resignations of Herbert Bayer, Marcel Breuer, and other long-time instructors. Even though Meyer shifted the orientation of the school further to the left than it had been under Gropius, he didn't want the school to become a tool of left-wing party politics. He prevented the formation of a student communist cell, and in the increasingly dangerous political atmosphere, this became a threat to the existence of the Dessau school. Dessau mayor Fritz Hesse fired him in the summer of 1930. [27] The Dessau city council attempted to convince Gropius to return as head of the school, but Gropius instead suggested Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Mies was appointed in 1930 and immediately interviewed each student, dismissing those that he deemed uncommitted. He halted the school's manufacture of goods so that the school could focus on teaching, and appointed no new faculty other than his close confidant Lilly Reich. By 1931, the Nazi Party was becoming more influential in German politics. When it gained control of the Dessau city council, it moved to close the school. [28] Wassily Chairs by Marcel Breuer (1925–1926) Berlin [ edit ] For its exterior, a Bauhaus-inspired watch usually comes in a sleek stainless steel case with a small and unobtrusive bezel so that wearers can focus on and admire the dial. Since Bauhaus watches tend to be dress watches, they typically do not have much water resistance. Ordinarily, Bauhaus watches would have a depth rating of around 30mm, which is pretty standard for dress watches. But there is some colour. The yellow secondhand adds enough to catch the eye. It doesn't overwhelm the plain dial or compromise the Bauhaus aesthetic. To this day, Bauhaus remains one of the most influential design movements of all time, having married functional design with aesthetic pleasure to create a modern art form that could bring beauty to everyday objects and beyond.

When children living in Weimar in the 1920s did not obey, people said: "If you are not good, then you will be put in the Bauhaus." It was "crazy people" who lived at the art school — who danced noisily through the streets in colorful theater costumes and painted pictures using triangles, circles and squares. Colorful is my favorite color," Gropius famously said, and a lot of the design that came out of the movement was strikingly colorful indeed.Today, the Bauhaus style stands as one of the most influential trends in modern design and architecture. Its philosophy continues to affect advancements in various forms of architecture, art, graphic design, interior design, and typography. Of course, this also includes the realm of watchmaking. As watchmaking is a form of art in itself, many top brands have also drawn inspiration from the Bauhaus design movement and applied its principles to their horological crafts. Final Thoughts It makes for a quirky piece. I like that the company famed for shavers comes at the Bauhaus style from a different angle.

In late 1932, Mies rented a derelict factory in Berlin (Birkbusch Street 49) to use as the new Bauhaus with his own money. The students and faculty rehabilitated the building, painting the interior white. The school operated for ten months without further interference from the Nazi Party. In 1933, the Gestapo closed down the Berlin school. Mies protested the decision, eventually speaking to the head of the Gestapo, who agreed to allow the school to re-open. However, shortly after receiving a letter permitting the opening of the Bauhaus, Mies and the other faculty agreed to voluntarily shut down the school. [ when?] [28]Now when we think of a Bauhaus style we think of minimalism and very simple, functional designs. Most of all Bauhaus is regarded as uniquely German. Their expression of modernism – a departure from both classical and traditional designs. German manufacturers Lange & Söhne and Stowa were among the first to release early designs. Stowa produced its first Antea watch in 1937. Staatliche's Bauhaus school of design founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar, Germany. The School was developed under Gropius' leadership. Swiss brand Swatch is famous for its plastic watches with colorful designs, so this Bauhaus-style model is a bit different from the brand’s usual style.
