At least, so we thought, until spring 2023. In March, Games Workshop announced a new Lion El’Jonson modelthat launched alongside a fresh novel focused on the character. The Lion El’Jonson novel breaks decades of Dark Angels canonas the arisen Primarch reconciles with some of his Fallen sons.

The Dark Angels are among the foremost Space Marines, the First Legion of old. Devastated millennia ago by a dreadful schism, the Dark Angels are constantly on the hunt for the mysterious Fallen, former brothers who have turned from the light of the immortal God-Emperor and embraced the dread powers of Chaos. Well bringing this lot up to 1000 points would be a start so that means 230 points to spend. Remember, this has to be a legal 40K force as defined by the Force Org chart in the main Rule Book. And here's the shopping list, some would be swaps for existing weapons or models rather than out-and-out additions: The Deathwing squad has been traditionally set up like something from 2nd Edition Codex Angels of Death, with an assault cannon trooper, a chainsword trooper and a power sword-wielding sergeant. Nothing wrong it that but things have moved on a bit. I'm surprised there are no twin claws models or thunder hammer/storm shield models to add flavour. Still at least there isn't a heavy flamer — let's be thankful for that. It's finally here, the box set to bring people into 6th edition, to create a whole new generation of Dark Angels and Chaos generals and to bolster the armies of those who have gone before; Warhammer 40k Dark Vengeance!

This mash up flesh and machinery is the Helbrute and he has been the source of much discussion here in the office. Could this be the Chaos equivalent of a Dreadknight?

Armored company – Predators are Troops; Kratos are elites; Infantry can take Land Raiders and Spartans as transports And so we come to it at last – Indomitus! 2020 may have been a troubling year for many of us, but one ray of light amid the gloom has been the arrival of the biggest, most glorious boxed set we’ve ever made. Otherwise, read on, and prepare to learn the grave secrets of the Dark Angels, the Sons of the Lion, the descendants of lost Caliban, the Unforgiven… The army list has been compiled using models and wargear that they come out of the box with. In some cases I've cheated and added 'invisible' wargear in the form of melta bombs (Company Master and the Ravenwing Sergeant), and an psychic Mastery upgrade (Librarian). These upgrades have added 45 points to the basic list.Four years later, the Dark Angels’ hunt for the Fallen took centre stage as they faced off with the Chaos Space Marines renegades known as the Crimson Slaughter in Dark Vengeance. I haven't included the special edition character Interrogator-Chaplain Seraphicus in the above list as I'm guessing not many people would have him. He complicates the issue being yet another HQ choice — rendering the DA contingent illegal if everything was fielded at once when using the standard 40K force organisation chart. But for completeness sake here he is: Necrons, Grey Knights, Space Marines, and Chaos Marines are all good options for new players. [3] X Research source Some factions can be difficult to play because they rely on complex rules. His goals are unknown, and it’s not even known if this is the same Cypher seen during the Horus Heresy. All we know is that his movements seem to centre on Terra – and he’s getting closer each passing day. He’s armed with the Sword of Secrets, his armour is known as The Protector, and he’s followed everywhere by one of Caliban’s mysterious creatures, known as a Watcher in the Dark, who carries his venerable helm, the Lion Helm.

The Dark Angels are often thought of as three armies in one, as they have a core of regular Space Marines, surrounded by fast-moving Ravenwing units, and ultra-resilient Terminator Deathwing units. Set apart by his modified helmet, decorative wing mounts and flowing robe, this guy looks as if he's ready to chop someone's head off in a single swipe. At the end of the booklet you get the where to go next? section. It points you in the direction of Online, Hobby Centres, White Dwarf (subtitle says – The Vital Guide to the Hobby – Oh how I laughed) and finally it mentions Expansions and Codices. It fails to mention the iBooks they’ve been releasing. There are many things to fear about the Dark Angels, but, in some ways, Brother Asmodai is the most fearsome of them all. Acting as their Master Interrogator-Chaplain, he is responsible for rooting out heresy or deviation, no matter what form it takes. Zealous and cold-hearted, Asmodai is a terror on the battlefield – but so much scarier if you meet him in an interrogation chamber. However, there is something about him which seems to me to be all together too bulky. This doesn't stop him being any less of an impressive character mini which, if I were a Dark Angels player, I would definitely use to lead my troops. Now, you should be able to field a Dark Angels army with pride, adding to it as you see fit, and evolving it into a force that can take on anything the galaxy can throw at you. Bladeguard, Primaris, or Terminator Ancient only: while the bearer is leading a unit, the unit has Feel No Pain 6+
