A printable vinyl sheet is a better choice if you need to remove your printed decal later without leaving residue. Let’s start out by learning about printable vinyl and what you can do with it. What is Printable Vinyl?

Inkjet printers seem to be the first choice for crafters printing on vinyl but a laser printer will also work. You can learn more about the difference between inkjet and laser printers here — Spoiler Alert: we’re big laser printer fans! If you’re using a Cricut Explore, set the dial to Custom and select Printable Vinyl as your material. If you’re using a Maker, directly select Printable Vinyl as your material.Some believe inkjet photo printers deliver more vibrant colors but we’ve seen excellent results using a laser printer as well. Vinyl printing means printing images on thin vinyl sheets with ink or toner. While this often takes place at large commercial printing facilities, you also can do it on a smaller scale at home with a computer printer and printable vinyl paper. Print Quality – The print quality of this paper is really good. The colors are vibrant and saturated.

Laser AND Inkjet Compatibility – These papers are compatible with both laser and inkjet printers. In fact, if you only have an inkjet printer, this is likely your best choice! But you don’t have to break the bank on a cutting machine. Exacto knives, razor blades, and old-fashioned scissors work just as well if you have time, patience, and a steady hand. Printable vinyl is best for smooth surfaces, like glass, plastic, metal, water bottles, laptops, notebook covers, and even paper. On the other hand, printable iron on vinyl is primarily used on fabric, so you can use it to make t-shirts, onesies, and more. Stain Resistant– Without any protective laminate covering (more on this below), I was able to easily wipe off any stains and smudges. I also love Cricut printable vinyl because it allows you to use as many colors as you want (the only limit being your printer!). With traditional adhesive vinyl, you’re limited to the colors of the vinyl, and if you want to create something with several colors, you’ll need to cut and layer each color of vinyl.
