The Samsung S10 officially makes punch-hole displays a trend after the idea debuted on the Honor View 20, and in-screen fingerprint sensors more mainstream after they appeared on the OnePlus 6T, Huawei Mate 20 Pro and a few Vivo phones.

IP68 water and dust resistant - so it can survive in 1.5m for up to 30 minutes - which is great if you are accident prone or want to protect your phone from the elements if you spend a lot of time outside. Samsung laid out two scenarios in which Wireless PowerShare would be helpful: charging a friend’s phone, or charging your Galaxy Buds at night, effectively making your plugged-in S10 a mobile Qi charger pad. Samsung noted, though, that PowerShare won’t work when the phone is below 30%.

Triple Rear Camera

Possibly the best bit about the Samsung Galaxy S10 though is its size. As we've already mentioned, it measures 149.9 x 70.4 x 7.8mm, and considering the size of the screen is nestles surprisingly well in the palm. You’re not going to be overly surprised by the rest of the Samsung Galaxy S10 design, though there are a few notable enhancements, two hidden surprises, and an old classic here. And that’s before you get to the video capabilities, which is another area where the S10 Plus excels. It’s able not only to shoot stabilised footage in 4K resolution at 60fps but also capture HDR10+ clips for video with improved dynamic range and ultra slow-motion footage, as well.

This is an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, different from the optical sensors on the OnePlus 6T and Huawei Mate 20 Pro, for example. There’s little to dislike regarding the new display – if the Infinity-O doesn’t distract day-to-day, and as mentioned we’ll update this review when we have more hands-on time with the S10. Samsung Galaxy S10: design I also took the time to run some analysis of real-world gaming performance with PUBG Mobile and Shadowgun Legends using the Gamebench benchmarking tool. In both games, the S10 Plus performed well, even at full 3,040 x 1,440. With PUBG Mobile in Ultra mode (capped at 40fps in other words) and the highest quality settings available in native resolution, the Galaxy S10 Plus delivered a median frame rate of 38fps.

An Updated Smartphone from an Iconic Brand

The Galaxy S10 has been one of Samsung's best selling models, and despite the fact that it has now been followed by the S20 and S10+, it is still a fantastic phone that is most well known for its stunning design, powerful performance and great camera. The Samsung S10 launch price was expensive, more so than the Galaxy S9, although it's markedly better value than the iPhone XS, which was more expensive and has a smaller 5.8-inch screen. It has elegantly curved edges with pixels that spill over the sides, amped-up brightness for better outdoor visibility, and HDR10+ support for superior contrast and color.

It's hard to disagree.It's possible to use the Samsung S10 one-handed, with the curved edges on the front and rear helping to give the effect that the phone is narrower than it actually is. It’s also given Samsung more screen real estate to play with than ever, and don’t let the bigger 6.1-inch screen size scare you off. One area where the Galaxy S10 could improve is in colour rendition. Generally speaking, colours aren’t as neutral as I may have liked and certain colour tones look quite oversaturated. If you take a look at the trees in my test shots, for instance, you’ll notice that the leaves look almost luminous. A 3400mAh battery with amazing lasting power and fast and wireless charging, so you have practical charging and spend less time waiting around for your phone to charge.

Is a 'punch-hole' camera more or less distracting than a notch? From our time with the Samsung S10 so far, we'd say less. It sits comfortably to the right in the notification bar, providing plenty of space for the time, battery and connectivity icons, as well as any notifications you may have. Bezel does outline the top and bottom of this display, even if we said it wasn’t big. Samsung’s top speaker still reigns, and there’s a thin but noticeable chin across the bottom; it’s less bezel rather than bezel-less. The Galaxy S10 also does a better job at levelling out exposure, with the Huawei P30’s automatic shooting mode generally overexposing images a bit too much. The HDR mode also does a fantastic job of lifting up the shadows and softening brighter areas of the image. Samsung has also introduced an extra 30 scenes to the phone’s “Intelligent Camera” neural processing unit (NPU). Essentially, this feature enables the camera to identify the object in the frame, be it a dog, cat or plant, and adjusts the camera settings accordingly for the best image possible.Phew. So, how about image quality then? Well, it’s superb, especially for colour rendition. This is one of those smartphone cameras that seems to be able to capture colours as you see them – they’re not under or over-saturated, and there seems to be a good balance between noise suppression and detail missing from its main rival on the camera front, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
